    Minimum Qualifications
    Traffic Signals Technician I:
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:


    Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of related work experience in a construction, electronics maintenance, or traffic signal-related role.

    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Must have a Texas Commercial Driver License or ability to obtain within five (5) months of employment or approved extension by Department Director or designee.
    • Valid Texas Driver License.


    Traffic Signals Technician II:
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in a construction, electronics maintenance, or signal-related role.
    • Education may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Must have a Texas Commercial Driver License or ability to obtain within five (5) months of employment or approved extension by the Department Director or designee.
    • Valid Texas Driver License
    • International Municipal Signal Association ( IMSA ) Certification Level 1.

    Overtime, on call, and call back rotation duties are required as needed.

    The Traffic Signal Technician will be responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing devices including, but not limited to traffic and pedestrian signals, signal cable on span wire or in conduit, install signal poles, arms, and cameras.

    After training, the Traffic Signal Technician will participate in rotation of being called during off hours to perform emergency repairs on traffic signals at all times during the night.

    Pay Rates:
    Traffic Signals Technician I: $22.22 to $24.77
    Traffic Signals Technician II: $24.08 - $27.93

    Driving Requirement:

    This position requires a valid Texas Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. Must have a Texas Commercial Driver License or ability to obtain within five (5) months of employment or approved extension by Department Director or designee. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    • Experience using computers to troubleshoot traffic signal issues.
