DescriptionVacancies are in the Division for Young Children of the Department of Families, Children, and Youth. Under supervision, monitors compliance with School Readiness requirements and other Hartford expectations as delineated by the Division for Young Children. Visits early childhood providers serving Hartford young children to administer various monitoring instruments within preschool classrooms in order to substantiate the accuracy of child assessment data, measure the quality of instructional practices and the classroom environment. Completes a Monitoring Report inclusive of a scored rubric and enters information into Hartford's Early Childhood Data System for each program to access their data to guide improvements. Participates in scheduled quality improvement meetings and various informal meetings with the staff of the various programs in which she/he monitors. Verifies child eligibility and approves documentation reviewed in each monitoring visit. Performs related work as required.
This is a CHPEA position. The hours of this position are 40 per week.This is a grant-funded position renewable on an annual basis. The City of Hartford is not obligated to fund this position upon termination of funding. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThe examination will consist of a rating of your training and experience as contained on your application and may also include a written test, an oral test, a performance based test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination is designed to measure:
Knowledge of:
- Early brain development and current research related to effective instructional practices and methods and their application to young children and their families;
- Child development, adult learning styles and dynamics of family relations;
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, preschool personnel, representatives of other agencies, the City administration and the general public.
QualificationsOpen to all applicants who meet the following qualifications.Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or related field (must have a concentration in early childhood)
AND Five (5) years of experience in teaching preschool and providing coaching support to classroom teachers.
Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred and may substitute one (1) year experience. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a valid Driver's License.
