Position OverviewThe City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill multiple vacancies for the classification of Communications Operator I in the Police Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under direct supervision, receives requests for emergency services and dispatches law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services via radio; and performs related duties as required.
WORK SCHEDULE: Must be willing to work rotating shifts to include graveyard, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted in the Communications Center of the City of Henderson Police Department. Incumbents work within a noisy and confined work area with radio traffic, ringing telephones, and conversations occurring simultaneously. Work involves receiving telephone calls from persons who are involved in emergency and non-emergency situations who may be hysterical, frightened, or angry. The City of Henderson conducts an extensive training program starting with an eight (8) week classroom academy involving lecture and hands-on simulator training with all of the Communication Center's computer systems. After the academy, individuals receive on-the-job training with certified trainers for a minimum of six (6) months. The City of Henderson also provides and pays for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications.
NOTE: Requests for sit-along(s) or private tours with the City of Henderson Communications Center are not available during the duration of this recruitment.

Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from high school, or the equivalent
- One (1) year of experience performing public contact work receiving and referring information
- Proficiency in keyboarding sufficient to type 55 net words per minute
- Must obtain certifications in Medical Priority Dispatch System and CPR within the first year of employment and maintain certifications as a condition of continued employment
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
- Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
- Desirable: Experience in emergency dispatch, a call center, or a closely-related field
- Desirable: Previous training and experience as an emergency dispatcher for public safety and medical operations
- Desirable: The ability to speak Spanish fluently
