    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Seven (7) years of experience working in a major automotive or related maintenance and repair facility, with three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
    • Combination of equivalent experience and education may substitute for the minimum qualifications.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Licensed for the operation of commercial vehicles in the state of Texas within 120 days of employment.
    • To be considered for employment in this position applicants must comply with Department of Transportation Federal Regulations and the City of Austin Drug Policy.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Essential duties are performed in a service center environment working in office conditions and exposure to motorized equipment, spare parts, tools, oil and lubrication, corrosive liquids, and other potentially hazardous materials.
    • Incumbent may be exposed to loud noise, and warm and cold conditions.
    • Individual will need to have good eye-and-hand coordination, and read and write in dimly lit conditions, and lift between up to thirty-five (35) pounds

    The Service Center Manager oversees daily operation work flow, including but not limited to staffing, customer relations, employee relations, and policy. They manage budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and develop staffing plans. Additionally, they track maintenance schedules, handle invoicing and procurement, and address facility concerns. The manager plays a crucial role in maintaining efficiency and effectiveness within the operation.

    The location and work schedule of this position may include day and evening hours, weekends and holidays as well as being on a rotational On-Call schedule.

    This position is considered an essential position which means it is expected that an employee comes to work during any City closure or emergency to include bad weather and any other unexpected events or shutdowns.

    Driving Requirement: This position requires a license for the operation of commercial vehicles in the state of Texas within one-hundred twenty (120) days of employment. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    Pay Range
    $35.50 - $45.27 per hour

    • ASE and /or EVT Certifications (Certifications) or manufacturer equivalent, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
    • NAFA - CAFM / CAFS (Certifications), or equivalent, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
    • Proven Leadership Experience: A track record of successfully leading and managing teams, preferably in an automotive or related industry.
    • Performance Management: Experience with setting performance expectations, providing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations.
    • Budget Management: Experience with managing budgets, controlling costs, and optimizing resource allocation.
    • Experience managing the maintenance and repair of a large, diverse fleet;
    • Experience overseeing the maintenance and repair of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles and of off-road equipment;
    • Experience managing a diverse public sector fleet
    • Customer Service: Experience ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and ability to address customer concerns effectively.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    Directs personnel in the daily operation of the service center including, scheduling, resolving operational complaints, maintaining effective customer relations, and interpreting and maintaining compliance with City and division policies and procedures. Manages federal and state statutory requirements, like permits, for facility usage. Establishes staffing plans and processes to ensure effective quality services. Develops service center budget and monitors monthly progress and approves expenditures; controls petty cash; and monitors and rectifies employee Labor Reconciliation reports, road call reports, down reports. Tracks and maintains preventative maintenance schedules for all sections assigned to each service center, notifying customers of due and missed dates. Reviews, authorizes, and tracks parts room invoices, purchases orders, parts orders, fuel orders, overhead, inventory, and negotiates and monitors contracts/agreements and responsible for following prescribed procedures. Manages hazardous waste generation, maintains environmental standards, and encourages a safe work environment.
