Position DescriptionTacoma Power's Utility Technology Services (UTS) section is accepting applications for a
Operations Technology Engineer to work in the Operational Information Systems Administration Group. This position primarily focuses on technical support of the Operational Systems including the hardware, operating system, and software maintenance and administration which must be performed in accordance with applicable reliability and compliance standards. In this role you will assist in the development of Operational Systems interfaces and use tools and data stored in the Operational Systems.
Job Responsibilities:- Respond to technical support queries from Operational Systems users.
- Support virtual computing hosting platforms.
- Provide support to Control Systems as required to support Utility operations.
- Lead small scale maintenance and upgrade projects for Operational Systems
- Coordinate with affected business units to design and implement projects to minimize impacts and downtime.
- Support Microsoft Active Directory, policies, and configurations
- Schedule departmental and vendor/contract resources as required.
- Participate in inter-departmental business case development resource teams to provide guidance for operational technology requirements.
- Support the development of cost models and estimates for proposed software/ technology solutions including hardware, software, installation, and future recurring maintenance costs and organizational impacts; identify and quantify benefits of proposed solutions; analyze potential risks and possible mitigation strategies related to operational technology.
- Develop functional and technical specifications for Operational Systems technology initiatives.
- Develop and implement automation routines to support maintenance tasks.
Qualifications Minimum Education* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or directly related field.
Minimum Experience* 2 years of computer network, communications engineering or industrial controls experience
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements - Must be able to pass a Personnel Risk Assessment upon hire and yearly thereafter to obtain access to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection Access (NERC-CIP)
- Valid Washington Driver's License at the time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.
Knowledge & SkillsFirst response to system failures through participation in on call rotation in a 24x7 data
center environment. Desirable Qualifications:- Experience with operational IT infrastructure support systems operations including management, backup/recovery, antivirus, and system monitoring/logging.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA).
- Experience working in the utility industry on regulated systems.
