ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Clark County District Attorney's Office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the District Attorney Team Clerk position. This position provides difficult, complex, technical, specialized and confidential legal support to a team of attorneys in the Criminal Division of the Office of the District Attorney.
THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of full-time experience in providing office support, two (2) years of which were in a court, legal, or similar environment requiring the use of legal terminology and the processing of legal documents. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.

Working Conditions: May require working evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Specific positions may be exposed to potentially difficult or dangerous individuals.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Performs difficult, complex, technical and/or specialized confidential legal office support work, requiring the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills, and a knowledge of court proceedings, legal processes, terminology, and documents related to criminal prosecution.
- Reviews and revises daily court calendar for Justice/District criminal court hearings; makes corrections and/or adjustments as required.
- Researches and assembles information from a variety of sources for court proceedings, completion of forms, or the preparation of reports; accesses county and/or statewide confidential computer data networks to obtain required information. Provides information to prosecuting attorneys, judges, defendants, legal counsel, public defender, the public, and other courtroom and County staff, requiring the use of judgment and the application of policies, rules or procedures.
- Responds to requests for information from outside entities, family members, victims, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel.
- Organizes, maintains, updates and purges various case, departmental or court files, records and logs.
- Using a personal computer, prepares forms, specialized documents, correspondence, and reports from drafts, notes, or brief instructions.
- Attends court proceedings, serving as clerk to prosecuting attorneys in criminal cases heard in District Court, Justice Court and Drug Court; prepares case files for court and ensures that all documents, evidence, and other materials are accurate and complete, organized and readily available prior to court proceeding; makes annotations in case files concerning issues such as outstanding fines, criminal history, other pending or current cases or indictments; apprises Deputy DA of special or unusual circumstances that may have an effect on the outcome of a case; reviews files for early settlement eligibility and forwards to Deputy DA for determination; prepares court orders and follows instructions issued by the presiding judge; assures that court orders are filed and certified.
- Maintains and/or manages multiple case management and other court technology systems, logs, and records; may prepare reports and/or other legal documents using a computer; reviews such reports and/or documents for accuracy and makes corrections as required.
- Processes incoming motions, discovery requests and other confidential and time sensitive documents.
- Reviews files for next day court proceedings; assures that all information is updated and that defendant has complied with previous court orders.
- Reviews legal or court documents, arrest or incident reports, files and cases to identify inaccurate, inconsistent and unclear codes, data and other information; notifies appropriate staff and participates in problem resolution; checks court and legal documents for proper authorization; obtains missing signatures or refers to appropriate staff for completion.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the team's service by offering suggestions and participating in team activity.
- Acts as receptionist and receives and screens visitors and telephone calls and directs the caller to the proper person or personally handles the call; operates standard office equipment.
- May provide assistance to other teams or serve as back-up to other DA Team Clerks as necessary.
- May train others in work procedures or direct the work of others on a project or relief basis.
