Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences or related field, to include six (6) semester hours involving or related to statistics and two (2) years of experience in a research field. Or
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences or related field and one (1) year of experience.

The Research Analyst Senior position for the Austin Fire Department works in an analytical capacity, researching and reviewing AFD Operation’s emergency incident reports for quality assurance. The individual works independently on mandated state NFIRS (National Fire Incident Reports) reporting and complex statistical analysis. Additionally, the functional requirements are:

• Provides guidance and/or training to operations’ personnel regarding appropriate NFIRS coding or with the ESO incident reporting platform.
• Provides technical support via phone, Microsoft Teams, and email to staff and operation’s personnel.
• Updates personnel records within Records Management System ( RMS ).
• Reviews and ensures completion of operation’s personnel injury reports.
• Designs and delivers end-user training and training materials.
• Maintains intranet site with up-to-date information regarding policy, news alerts, frequently asked questions, resources, and training videos.
• Assist with identifying trends within the Fire Department to assist with improving data quality.
• Prepares reports, visual aids, statistics, and provides support to stakeholders on an ad hoc basis.
• Provides assistance with the Records Management Program when asked.
• Provides assistance with the Research and Data division on an ad hoc basis.

Travel:

Pay Range
$26.61 - $31.87 per hour

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

5 .Designs methodology for tracking data using various software programs.
6. Authors, edits technical reports using details to support research findings.
7. Consults, makes presentations and makes recommendations using statistical data.
8 .Coordinates issues with management and other targeted audiences, serves on committees working with specific research projects.
9 Exchanges results of research data with other departments, agencies or specific technical groups.
10 .Reviews legislation, regulations, and policies to determine impact of research results.
11. Formulates strategy for managing issues using statistical data.
