Workdays & Hours: This is a full-time position working at least 40 hours per week with benefits; possible 4-day, 10-hour standard schedules 6:00am to 4:30pm; Some evening/weekend work required.

An Equipment Operator job is available with The City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department. This position will be responsible for the litter control operations to include street sweeping and related efforts. The Environmental Services Department operates critical programs that continually serves to managing environmental quality, garbage, recycling and waste reduction services for the residents of Fort Worth. This position is intended to directly support in street sweeping and litter abatement goals within the City of Fort Worth. This contributes to the City’s vision of the “most livable and best managed city in the country”.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma / GED and two years of experience in operation of motorized equipment.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Possession of an CDL Class “A” or “B” license.

The Equipment Operator job responsibilities include:
  • Maintains and operate various types of motorized equipment in performance of assigned job duties including the more complex and heavier equipment, such as street sweeper, roll-off, and skid steer.
  • Rotate between street sweeping and litter abatement work in the safest manner possible to ensure the safety of crew members and the general public; to perform the more complex work tasks related to job completion. Operate street sweeper and other equipment as needed on assigned work orders.
  • Verify locations of waste and enter information in computer, maintain records as required by state regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains records of equipment used and operations performed.
  • Operates a variety of motorized equipment maintenance and construction equipment and a variety of hand tools. Some equipment requires specialized certification and training for proper operation.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned and inspects equipment before and after each use.
  • Completes daily operations reports and time sheets.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations.
  • Completion of scheduled and requested street sweeping routes consisting of city’s arterials and thoroughfares.
  • Performs other duties as required.
