Position Overview
The Communications Manager for the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) is responsible for managing the department's Public Affairs initiatives, ensuring clear, consistent, and impactful communication with both internal and external stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Communications Director, the Communications Manager will lead AFRD’s internal and external communications efforts, oversee digital content, and support AFRD’s strategic communication goals. This role involves creating compelling messaging, managing digital platforms, and coordinating public relations activities to enhance AFRD's brand and engagement with the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, content management systems (CMS), and social media platforms is essential.

Preferred Education & Experience
  • Prior experience in public service or working with government agencies is highly desirable.
  • Experience with web development, analytics, and managing digital content platforms is a plus.
  • Design experience and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite are preferred.
  • Previous experience as a copy editor, or experience in digital design, is a plus.
