The Position

Public Health Rating and Survey Officers work under administrative direction and are responsible for the survey and evaluation of food storage, preparation and serving practices and procedures to determine compliance with United States Food and Drug Administration and Nevada laws, regulations and standards; regulate and enforce State law relating to: the Safe Drinking Water Program in Nevada; drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, and public institutions; perform as an authorized agent of the Food and Drug Commission as required. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Industry is recruiting for a Public Health Rating and Survey Officer position in their Las Vegas, Nevada office. This position is responsible for conducting routine inspections and investigations of dairy and meat facilities in the Southern area of the State and to conduct Federal check ratings of Grade A Dairy Facilities on behalf of the FDA in the Northern area of the State. The position is responsible for evaluating facilities for compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations through the inspection process utilizing record review, interviews, and observations. The position must complete all required inspection activity documents in accordance with regulations, statutes, and policies and procedures, as applicable. This position evaluates milk haulers and samplers to the standards set forth in the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, and collects dairy and single service samples. This position serves as a resource for and provides information and education to industry and Department of Agriculture personnel. This position will perform other related work as assigned. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Licensure as an Environmental Health Specialist and four years of professional experience performing environmental health related duties for a regulatory agency or other relevant environmental health work experience; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Health Specialist III in Nevada State service. Special Notes Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist in another state or by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain a Registration by Endorsement or Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist (R.E.H.S.) by the Nevada State Board of Environmental Health Specialists within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Federal certification as a Certified Food Program Inspection/Training Officer is required within one year from the date of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
