The Department of Public Works is seeking candidates for the position of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst II*. Under general supervision, this role will utilize GIS technology to optimize business processes and improve the efficiency of public works operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing the department's GIS infrastructure and related applications.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Developing, maintaining, and enhancing the department's GIS infrastructure to support mapping and customer service objectives across various public works functions.
  • Supporting GIS data projects related to public works services, including but not limited to infrastructure management, environmental monitoring, and community services.
  • Contributing to the long-term development and enhancement of the department's GIS technology.
  • Leading GIS tasks, providing technical expertise, and offering support to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. A valid California Class C driver's license and automobile insurance must be produced at the time of hire and maintained.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing GIS mapping and analysis, and one (1) year managing GIS related projects. Experience may be concurrent.

-AND-

Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in information technology, business administration, GIS or a closely related field. If no Bachelor's degree in a qualifying field is held, a list of completed coursework is required.

Substitution : One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may substitute for thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of education.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Prior experience applying GIS principles within the public works sector, focusing on infrastructure analysis, environmental impacts, and community needs to improve resource management and operational efficiency.
  • Proficiency in the Esri suite of applications (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Hub, ArcGIS StoryMaps, etc.).
  • Strong background in data engineering, data analytics, and resolving technical issues, with experience in coding/programming, especially in SQL and Python.
  • Advanced knowledge of business analysis tools and methodologies, with the ability to understand complex problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and leadership skills.
  • Project management experience, including effective interaction with end users and program staff.
  • Problem solving skills, resourcefulness, strong work ethic, ability to identify client needs to comprehend full scope of work.
