Job Summary

The Grand Prairie Public Library System is seeking a dynamic, upbeat individual with a passion for community development and engagement.

Our Children’s Librarian/Programmer will lead approximately 4 to 8 programs each week, both in our three libraries and out in the community. The ideal candidate will collaborate with community partners, manage budget, coordinate logistics, and ensure the success of library initiatives that enhance community engagement. This position is responsible for conceptualizing, planning, and implementing diverse and engaging programs and events for babies, toddlers, preschool ages, elementary schoolers and caregivers. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable assisting with large-scale events including Summer Reading Club programming. Our Programming Team is fun, diverse, and hardworking. We are looking for a new member who is self-motivated, highly-organized, and able to respond effectively to the needs of our community. We would love someone easy-going and innovative who does not shy away from a challenge. Strong communication and multi-tasking skills are essential. This position is full time with benefits. A Master’s Degree in Library Science or a related field is preferred. Equivalent education/experience will also be considered.

Essential Job Functions

  • Researches, schedules, plans, organizes, develops program ideas and materials, coordinates program logistics as appropriate, and presents instructional programs for target populations.
  • Promotes and markets programs and library services to the public; prepare flyers, news releases and brochures along with maintaining the website.
  • Participates in the development and monitoring of program budget and activity reports; maintains accurate records and generates reports involving expenditures and a variety of other program information.
  • Purchases and maintains necessary equipment and supplies.

  • Includes some information desk shifts at the library and semiregular evening and weekend work.


Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

  • Education: Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Masters degree-level of study, P.E., Legal degree, CPA, etc.
  • Experience: Under and including one year.
