    The Department of Psychology at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a Latine Psychology scholar to serve as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology, from any subfield. Appointment would begin Fall 2025.

    Position
    In line with our department mission statement, we are looking for outstanding candidates in any subfield of psychology with expertise in Latine Psychology. We are interested in applicants pursuing innovative psychological research as Latine Psychology scholars whose teaching, research, scholarship, and/or mentoring focuses on Latine issues and supports equity and inclusion of diverse students. Candidates are expected to teach courses in psychology that may include but are not limited to our newly developed Latina/o/x Psychology course, Multicultural Psychology, and other courses within their area of expertise. Candidates should also show potential for developing new courses relevant to their area of expertise. Additionally, candidates must conduct quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research that incorporates issues relevant to Latine Psychology. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to mentor and support undergraduate or graduate students. This position is for a Latine scholar with a strong emphasis in both teaching and research. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on thesis committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.

    Required Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field with an emphasis on Latine Psychology. ABDs may apply, but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date
    • Demonstrated foundation and training in Latine scholarship as indicated by publications, graduate coursework, teaching, or training (i.e., postdoctoral training).
    • Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and support undergraduate and/or graduate students and commitment to teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct research/scholarship that leads to publication in peer-reviewed journals or other valuable forms of scholarly dissemination.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • A commitment to developing a strong Latine Psychology research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students.
    • Demonstrated ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship, and service.
    • A high motivation to seek external funding for one’s research program.
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and/or service.       • The candidate has acquired knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty in higher education.
      • The candidate has experience in and is committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations in higher education.
      • The candidate has experience in and is committed to teaching and/or mentoring underrepresented students in a higher education environment.
      • The candidate has experience integrating underrepresented populations and communities into scholarly and creative activities.

    The Psychology Department is one of the largest on campus with nearly 4,000 majors. We offer the B.A. in Psychology, an Industrial/Organizational undergraduate emphasis, a multicultural undergraduate emphasis, as well as Master's degrees in Psychological Research (MA) and Clinical Psychology (MS). Both master's programs require a thesis. The department serves a diverse student body, many of whom are involved in one or more student groups, including the Latinx Student Psychological Association (LSPA), Psi Chi (psychology honors students), the Psychology Department Student Association (PDSA), and the Psychology Association of Graduate Students of Color and Allies (PAGSOCA). Our students bring a wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences into the classroom, making for a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

    We currently have 27 full-time faculty with a wide range of research interests and expertise. Colleagues who share interests with psychology faculty are found in many other departments including African American Studies, Child and Adolescent Studies, Human Services, Counseling, Management and Biology. The department prides itself on the extent to which faculty are able to combine teaching and research and involve students in research activities.

    Compensation
    The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,315 to $7,459 per month.

    Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications and is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm ).
