JOB SUMMARY

JOB SUMMARY
The City of San Marcos is looking for energetic individuals to staff our Summer Fun Program. The program provides area children, ages 7 thru 14, with a fun-filled summer that includes games, activities, and field trips! This is temporary employment. The position begins June 3, 2024, for staff training, and

Summer Fun begins June 10, 2024. Camps run for 8 weeks - ending on August 2, 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs child supervision duties for both on and off campus program activities; administers first aid; enforces adherence to safety rules; fills out handwritten forms; performs safety inspections daily.Administers recreation activities on a playground campus site including structured activities, bowling, swimming, movies and special field trips.Maintains campus site area; cleans floors; picks up trash; cleans bathrooms and performs other janitorial work as needed.

DECISION MAKING
  • Must be able to perform duties safely and apply policies and procedures appropriately.
  • Supervise children at all times.
  • Must be able to facilitate an atmosphere that encourages challenge, learning, and growth.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is required during week of training- administered by COSM.
  • Required to work a full 9 weeks with the program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Previous experience working with young children is preferred.

JOB DIMENSIONS
Good communication skills needed to administer and supervise recreational activities to children; ability to handle emergency situations in a calm manner. Ability to administer recreational activities in a safe and effective manner while complying with applicable City rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to respond to emergency situations and to take appropriate action when necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include working outdoors in extreme heat, humidity and wind. Occasionally exposed to pool chemicals, slippery surfaces, and noise around crowds and whistles. Subject to standing, sitting, hearing, talking, vision, lifting up to 20 lbs., pushing, pulling, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, banding, twisting, climbing, balancing and reaching.

WORK HOURS
7:15am- 5:30pm
Monday - Friday
Plus, one hour of staff training per week.
