California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5,000 students annually. JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Nursing at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) invites applications from those seeking a full-time lecturer position in the Department of Nursing (DON) for the start of the academic year, 2024-2025. The DON is seeking visionary candidates who contribute to our campus community through teaching, professional activities and service, and collaboration on scholarship as applicable, and to achieve the mission and goals of the Department, College and University in a multicultural community. The successful candidates will also have job skills, experience, and/or willingness to engage in diversity-type activities that could enhance campus diversity efforts and promote commitment of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in faculty culture. The candidates must have a Master’s degree or higher in nursing from a regionally accredited institution by time of appointment.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the responsibilities of a full-time Simulation/ Skills Laboratory Coordinator for the CSUSB two-site nursing programs. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating simulated and skills lab learning experiences using a range of simulation technology in a variety of courses; coordinating purchases, maintenance, and repairs of simulation technology with departmental staff; assisting with faculty development for simulation; advising on purchases of simulation technology to complement program curricula; maintaining laboratory inventory; ensuring safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials; orientating faculty to lab procedures, location and use of materials and operation of the equipment; coordinating skills/simulation lab scheduling among different courses/cohorts, and; any other duties as assigned and/or required.

It is anticipated the position will periodically afford opportunities to teach outside the Skills/Simulation Lab.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's degree or higher in nursing.
  • Candidates must be eligible for California RN licensure and approval with Instructor- status by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) at the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse campus community and the ability to contribute to a positive work environment with colleagues, staff, students/learners, and others.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's degree or higher in nursing.
  • Candidates must be eligible for California RN licensure and approval with Instructor- status by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) at the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse campus community and the ability to contribute to a positive work environment with colleagues, staff, students/learners, and others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
  • Experience in teaching and evaluating learners from diverse populations, socioeconomic, cultural and academic backgrounds.
  • Experience in developing, scheduling, planning, implementing, and evaluating learners’ learning outcomes in skills and simulations lab.
  • Experience in managing a skills or simulation lab.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Nursing (DON) at California State University San Bernardino is committed to continuing to build a diverse faculty, staff, and student body as it responds to the changing population and educational needs of California and the nation. The DON offers courses in undergraduate and graduate programs on two campuses (San Bernardino and Palm Desert) that are predominantly face-to-face for pre-licensure BSN students and in hybrid format for registered nurse and MSN students. The DON has an enrollment of approximately 400 undergraduate and 30 graduate students. Degree programs include BSN (prelicensure and RN to BSN) and MSN with specialty options as Nurse Educator, Population Health for Clinical Leaders, and Advanced Community/Public Health Nursing. The school is in the process of planning for a Doctor of Nursing Practice Program with a Nurse Practitioner focus to meet the healthcare needs of the San Bernardino and surrounding communities.
