KINESIOLOGY, PART-TIME LECTURER POOL

The Kinesiology & Public Health Department in the College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for the Kinesiology and Physical Activity part-time lecturer pool. Appointments are available as determined by need during Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarters of the 2023-24 academic year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base.

Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate Kinesiology, general education, and/or physical activity courses. Assignments may include a combination of the following:
  • Physical activity courses in weight training, yoga, pilates, group fitness, swimming, jogging, fitness walking, ultimate disc, and various team & individual sports;
  • General education psychology of injury; sport and gender; sports, media & American popular culture.
  • Kinesiology undergraduate courses such as adapted physical activity, first aid & CPR; functional anatomy, managing exercise & health programs, motor development; orientation to kinesiology, personal and group fitness instruction, school PE and health methods.
  • Laboratory courses in adapted physical activity, biomechanics, electrocardiography, exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, motor learning and control, and introduction to research methods in kinesiology.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $4,530-$6,056
Lecturer B: $5,405-$11,994
Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172
Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • For physical activity lecturers: A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related field is required.
  • For kinesiology undergraduate and laboratory lecturers: A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related field is required

PREFERRED PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • For kinesiology undergraduate, general education and laboratory lecturers: A Master's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport Psychology, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Certification in personal training, fitness instructor, swimming instructor, strength and conditioning, exercise specialist and/or registered clinical exercise physiologist.
  • Preference given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in college teaching and/or relevant industry experience and appropriate certification.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Kinesiology and Public Health is a major academic unit within the College of Science and Mathematics. It offers a BS degree in Kinesiology and a BS degree in Public Health to approximately 500 undergraduate students. The Department also offers courses to meet general education requirements and physical activity courses for all Cal Poly students.
