Position Description

The Department of Human Services at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2024.

The Position

The person in this position will teach foundation and specialized courses in the Human Services Department, including courses offered in the Mental Health Recovery concentration; as well as fieldwork courses. Conduct and publish research/scholarly activity in areas of expertise. Assist with new and existing curriculum, including strengthening the field component; be actively involved in on-going program development, assessment and evaluation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Earned doctorate in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Counseling and any other relevant field from an accredited institution by the start of appointment, August 19, 2024.
  • Demonstrated experience in the human services field using foundation and advanced generalist practice knowledge, values and skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach relevant courses in Human Services, including those with mental health recovery content;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively establish and collaborate with community field agencies for student field placements
  • Demonstrated promise in research, assessment, grant writing and publication;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive working environment with colleagues, staff, students and others.
  • Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with at least two years post master work experiences;
  • Established scholarly activities/existing research agenda
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Experience with accreditation processes in Human Services and/or Social Work
  • Two or more years of teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills.
  • Experience with using on-line learning software for possible adoption of online classes.
  • Experience as a field instructor, field liaison, or field coordination.
  • Expertise in mental health recovery theories and practice as they relate to human services
  • Commitment and willingness to engage in program re-design and planning for the next phase of program development.
  • Strong commitment to program’s value of diversity and inclusion.

Additional Information

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $6,700 to $6,900. This position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
