POSITION TITLE: Tenure Track Faculty - Chicanx and Latinx (Health and/or Crimmigration)
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Ethnic Studies Department has been in existence for more than 50 years at Sacramento State. The Department is comprised of the following programs: Asian American Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, General Ethnic Studies, Native American Studies, Pan African Studies, and Teachers in Urban Settings or Teachers in Bilingual Education. Ethnic Studies is a degree-granting interdisciplinary program offering course work in the study of the past and present histories, cultures, languages and issues that define ethnic group experiences in the United States. In addition to its teaching mission, the department is involved in research and community-based projects.
The Department of Ethnic Studies is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, consisting of 11 academic departments, three independent and interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes. The College is a congenial and cohesive unit both academically and administratively. Our campus community represents the broad diversity of our state, and we believe that all are enriched and unified by this diversity. POSITION DETAILS: The Department of Ethnic Studies at California State University, Sacramento invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning Fall 2024. The successful candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, related field or appropriate terminal degree such as J.D. (Juris Doctor). ABD candidates will be considered and required to complete the doctoral degree by July 1, 2024.
The Department seeks candidates who demonstrate potential to teach lower-division and upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in Ethnic Studies, including ETHN 11: Introduction to Ethnic Studies; ETHN 30: Introduction to Chicano/Latino Studies; ETHN 100: Ethnic America; ETHN 130: Chicano/Mexican-American Experience; and ETHN 131: La Raza Studies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, or related discipline. ABD candidates, J.D. (Juris Doctor), or appropriate terminal degree will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by July 1, 2024.
- Demonstrated potential to teach courses in Chicanx/Latinx Studies such as ETHN 30 (Introduction to Chicano/Latino Studies), ETHN 130 (Chicano/Mexican-American Experience), or ETHN 131 (La Raza Studies).
- Demonstrated potential to teach General Ethnic Studies courses such as ETHN 11 (Introduction to Ethnic Studies) or ETHN 100 (Ethnic America).
- Demonstrated proficiency in Chicanx/Latinx crimmigration (intersection between criminal and immigration law) or Chicanx/Latinx health or associated topics (please state which field/s in your cover letter).
- Demonstrated experience in using critical, intersectional, and/or interdisciplinary approaches to the study of Chicanx/Latinx populations.
- Demonstrated experience communicating and working effectively with diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated active research agenda in Chicanx and Latinx Studies/Ethnic Studies.
- Demonstrated potential to build collaborative partnerships in the region with Chicanx/Latinx communities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Specialization in one or more of the following areas: gender, and sexuality; Chicana/Latina feminisms; political economy, labor, and/or unions; community activism; racial violence/hate crimes; educational inequalities; media/popular culture; immigration and border studies; incarceration; Latinx indigeneity; decolonization and/or settler colonialism.
- Critical pedagogies and scholarship that reflect contemporary trends in Ethnic Studies/Chicanx and Latinx Studies.
- Demonstrated experience teaching one or more of the following: Introduction to Ethnic Studies, Introduction to Chicano/Latino Studies, Chicano/Mexican-American Experience, Chicano/Latino Politics and Public Policy, La Raza Studies, La Mujer Chicana, U.S. Mexican Border Relations, and Race and Ethnicity in Latin America and Caribbean.
- Demonstrated potential to mentor underrepresented, first-generation college students.
- Demonstrated experience as a teaching assistant, college/university lecturer, or professor in Chicanx and Latinx Studies/Ethnic Studies courses.
- Demonstrated potential to create and promote anti-racism in the curriculum and classroom.
- Demonstrated interest in developing and teaching online/hybrid courses at the University level.
- Demonstrated potential to engage in departmental, college, and/or university service.

OTHER SPECIFICS ABOUT THE POSITION: The classification annual salary range for this position is $64,860 - $143,928; the anticipated annual starting salary is $75,000.
