About the University: California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities, not only in the California State University system, but also in the nation. About the Program: The B.A. in Music degree at CSUCI offers a broad, integrated undergraduate experience in music that specializes in individualized attention from exceptional faculty who challenge students to achieve their best. The diverse curriculum design offers students the necessary skills to be at the forefront of the music industry in the twenty-first century and emphasizes the multicultural global perspectives that are the hallmarks of CI.
The B.A. in Music degree will prepare students for a career in a wide array of music-related opportunities including: professional musicians, studio engineers, music educators, music industry positions, composers/arrangers/songwriters and graduate studies in music.
About the Position: The Music Program (MUS) at CI invites qualified applicants to teach Private Lessons in Voice and/or instruments to both music majors and non-majors in person on campus, according to program needs. Preferred qualifications include teaching Private Lessons in Piano as well as Voice. Additional opportunities to teach other MUS courses in the future are dependent on qualifications, budget, and enrollment growth.
- This is a part-time faculty pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the year and reviewed based on Performing Arts-Music (MUS) Program need. Here is a current list of courses taught within the MUS program. People with expertise and ability within and beyond the current course offerings are encouraged to apply. Minimum Degree Requirements:A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Music or a related field, OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Music and significant professional experience in one or more relevant fields. Degree requirements can vary depending on courses taught.
Required Qualifications : - 1+ years teaching vocal and/or instrumental lessons. All cultures, genres, styles, of vocal and instrumental pedagogical practices are welcome and encouraged to apply.
- Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency and experience in vocal and instrumental private and group lessons.
- Innovative approaches to vocal and instrumental pedagogy and practice reflecting the ability to effectively teach in diverse genres and styles of music.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills.
- Applicants must demonstrate successful experience teaching private voice and instrumental lessons and an acute awareness of the course content taught.
- Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.
Preferred Qualifications : - A Master’s or Doctoral degree, or other terminal degree in a closely related field or Bachelor’s in Music with significant professional experience in a relevant field. Experience teaching online/ hybrid or face to face. Demonstrate successful experience teaching private voice and instrumental lessons at the college or university level.

- Two + years teaching music in higher education.
- Recognized extensive participation in their respective music practice, creative activities, and/or scholarship.
- Highly effective oral, written, digital communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information.
- Demonstrated culturally-relevant, responsive and sustaining pedagogy in their syllabi, curriculum, and interactions with students, faculty, staff, and/or community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities, ethnicities, socio-economic levels, ages, identities, abilities and/or educational experiences
- The ability to teach other MUS prefix courses in future semesters depend on qualifications, budget, enrollment, and program needs.
Responsibilities:Teach private lessons in voice and/or instrumental music. Additional duties could include teaching other music courses depending on qualifications, budget, enrollment, and program needs.

Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
