Salary Scale: $76,000 to $85,244 for Senior Assistant Librarian or $85,224 to $102,000 Associate Librarian (Dependent upon qualifications)

Position:

In support of its service and information literacy mission, the Department of Research, Instruction, and Outreach Services at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking an innovative and self-motivated tenure-track Ethnic Studies Librarian at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian Level. The successful candidate will collaborate with other librarians to coordinate directed outreach projects in support of information literacy instruction and other co-curricular learning opportunities for students and faculty in the Ethnic Studies departments and programs at CSUN (Africana Studies, Chicano/a Studies, Asian American Studies, Central American and Transborder Studies and American Indian Studies). This position provides an exceptional opportunity for a librarian to support CSUN’s students and faculty in Ethnic Studies departments and affiliated campus partners (student organizations and services) in innovative ways that align with the CSU’s statewide Ethnic Studies requirement and CSUN’s general education Ethnic Studies course offerings (please see: https://catalog.csun.edu/general_education/es/ ). The selected candidate will be assigned liaison roles for one or more of the Ethnic Studies departments and programs. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with faculty to develop existing collections in Ethnic Studies. The Ethnic Studies librarian may also support additional departments and programs as needed.

This is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian Level with attendant expectations for professional competence, service, and scholarly and creative contributions to the field. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, holding weekly office hours, and service to the department, college, and university is required. The successful candidate will also be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which they are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school, or equivalent degree if earned outside the U.S. or Canada.
  • At least 2 years of experience in an academic library
  • Experience in leading a team or managing a group project
  • Experience providing reference/research assistance in an academic library
  • Relevant teaching experience providing information literacy or library instruction
  • Familiarity with inclusive pedagogies and instruction practices to engage multiethnic and multicultural communities
  • Evidence of effective engagement OR potential to engage with a diverse student body.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Commitment to engage in research and continued professional development worthy of promotion and tenure in the California State University system.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in developing and providing intentional outreach programming to create and strengthen collaborative partnerships with campus departments and others to support student learning, success, and equity;
  • Experience providing inclusive, student-centered, and culturally responsible information literacy instruction and mentoring that leads to equitable outcomes for all students;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the information needs and methods of inquiry in Ethnic Studies or related interdisciplinary fields.
  • Experience with collection development practices and resources that support Ethnic Studies research and related fields of study.
  • Commitment to a reparative framework in managing, using, and building collections.
  • Experience in developing digital learning objects.
  • Knowledge of or experience providing in-person and virtual reference/or research consultations for students and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of or experience carrying out liaison outreach duties in an academic library.
  • Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body
  • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a complex, changing environment to bring projects to a successful completion;
  • Proficiency or fluency in a second language (e.g., American Sign Language (ASL), Spanish, etc.)
