About the Opportunity THE POSITION The Deputy Sheriff Intern classification will be used to provide a formal training program for individuals who are 18 through 24 years of age with the goal of providing incumbents the opportunity to experience law enforcement and determine their career goals. Incumbents will be provided with the skills and competencies necessary to meet the demands of becoming a public safety officer while preparing them for a full-time law enforcement career. Candidates will attend the POST academy and/or CORE academy as their college schedule permits. Stanislaus County will bear the cost of the POST academy and CORE academy. Deputy Sheriff Interns may attend the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified Regular Basic Course (RBC). Over the course of the approximately 740 hour RBC, incumbents will receive intensive academic instruction in law enforcement procedures combined with rigorous physical fitness training. Successful completion of the POST Regular Basic Course requires full-time attendance for approximately four months in addition to off duty study time. Deputy Sheriff Interns may attend the CORE academy at the Stanislaus County Regional Training Center. Successful completion of the CORE academy requires full-time attendance for approximately six weeks. The first year incumbent may be assigned to work in the Adult Detention facilities under the direct supervision of a Facility Training Officer (FTO). During this assignment, the incumbent will receive training in the care, custody, and control of inmates. The second year incumbent may be assigned to work in the Operations/Patrol Division and will complete a POST approved Field Training program. During this assignment, the incumbent will learn law enforcement policies, procedures, crime prevention strategies, and enforcement protocols. The Deputy Sheriff Intern must transition to the Deputy Sheriff or Deputy Sheriff Custodial classification through the County recruitment process or separate from County service before age 25. The FTO internship program in each division will require hour and shift commitment based on your college schedule availability. The Position: The Water Resources Intern will provide support to Engineering & Water Resources Department staff on projects relating to water, wastewater, and recycled water. The Records & Information Management (RIM) team in Power Generation is seeking a Digitization Intern for 2024. As the Digitization Intern, you’ll be at the bedrock of our mission to revolutionize the way we organize and manage files. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience managing historical records. The Generation Records Management Program oversees more than 100 years of records and needs your help to transform physical materials into high-quality, accessible digital versions. Our ideal intern will assist in the operation of the Generation RIM Program at a trainee level and gain hands-on experience with digital preservation. Work will take place in an office environment and involve a lot of computer time and repetitive tasks, as well as standing, reaching, and lifting up to 30 pounds. A successful intern will have prior Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) experience, great attention to detail, an interest in digitization, and some experience with historical documents. A basic understanding of digitization processes, scanning equipment, or historic document handling is preferred. Other opportunities may also be available depending upon the successful completion of primary goals and/or the skills and interests of the intern. Applicants interested in records management, document organization, historical preservation, archival theory, metadata creation, data science, or hydroelectric power generation are encouraged to apply. The hours for this position are a minimum of 24 hours per week, for at least 12 weeks. Extension up to 50 weeks may be possible, if desired. Responsibilities Include: Assist Generation staff in the handling, digitization, storage, and preservation of physical materials. Assist in the uploading, organization, and verification of digitized records to Generation databases and SharePoint sites. Collaborate with Generation staff to ensure that digitized records are available, accessible, and organized for retrieval/archiving. Support the development of process automation, task delegation, and project management efforts in SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet, and/or other software. Qualifications Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Enrolled in vocational school, community college, four-year college or university, graduate student or a recent graduate who has completed a degree from an accredited college/university within the last year.
