The Position 3% salary increase effective July 1, 2024, c lick HERE for details The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Construction Inspector II to fill one (1) vacancy in the City Engineering Services Division of the Public Works Department . The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months. Public Works Engineering designs infrastructure elements for transportation, parking, sewer and storm drain facilities. The Engineering Division also protects private and public improvements from flood damage. The Construction Inspector II responds to service requests in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner; and records amounts of materials and work performed to construct within a budget. The Construction Inspector II checks, evaluates, and inspects workmanship and materials on a variety of public works or utility construction projects for conformance with plans, specifications and departmental regulations. Work Performed Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Review, evaluate, and check plans and specifications for various assigned projects including; all types of public works projects, water projects, private development projects, utility projects, etc.; communicate, engage, and work closely with upper level staff to ensure conformance of project plans and specifications. Identify, determine, and check the placement of all work in the public right of way throughout the City. Ensure work follows project plans, specifications, and City standards. Inspect materials conform to project specifications and/or City standards; take, gather, and compile samples of materials for examination or analyses by laboratories; perform routine field tests. Observe and properly document work during progress and upon completion; record amounts of materials used and all work performed; document and take appropriate action regarding safety and/or National Pollution Discharge Elimination System violations. Check line, grade, size, elevation and location of structures; identify, indicate, and clearly mark location of various appurtenances on plans. Ensure work adheres to construction surveys. Inspect adjacent properties for damage from construction activity; help locate other utility structures ahead of work sites; provide knowledge and expertise to ensure a safe and effective construction environment for projects within the City. Confer, communicate, and speak with property owners regarding project schedule, hazards and inconvenience; demonstrate strong project knowledge and excellent customer service. Coordinate work with other City departments and utilities; process, submit, and deliver timely contractor payments. Schedule service interruption with least interference and least inconvenience to properties. Prepare as built plans for completed projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience: Education: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED). Experience: Three years of experience performing construction inspections for residential, commercial, or industrial properties Licenses and Certifications: Possession of or ability to obtain, a valid Class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License Highly Desirable Qualifications: Minimum Two (2) years experience in any combination of the following areas: Installing or inspecting traffic signals Installing or inspecting sewer mains Installing or inspecting storm drains and catch basins Installing/laying concrete or asphalt Inspecting traffic control for compliance Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Work is done in a standard office environment and in the field with exposure to construction materials, hazards, chemicals, and other adverse conditions.
