An Airports Maintenance Superintendent plans, organizes, and directs, through subordinate supervisors, the work of several crews of skilled craft and maintenance workers engaged in the operation, custodial care, maintenance, alteration, repair, and construction of airports buildings, grounds, airfields, and appurtenant equipment, including complex air-conditioning equipment; applies sound supervisory techniques in building and maintaining an effective work force and fulfills equal employment opportunity responsibilities. REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S) Two years of full-time paid experience as an Airports Maintenance Supervisor, or in a class at that level, supervising employees engaged in building equipment maintenance and operation, equipment operation, fleet maintenance, fleet equipment procurement, construction, or street maintenance; or Four years of full-time paid experience as a Senior Building Operating Engineer, or in a class at that level, as a working supervisor of employees engaged in building equipment maintenance and operation, equipment operation, fleet maintenance, fleet equipment procurement, construction, or street maintenance. In the interview, the following competencies may be evaluated: Judgment and Decision Making; Supervision; Fiscal Management; Interpersonal Skills; Resolves Conflict; Written Communication; Project Management; Job Knowledge, including knowledge of: maintenance program administration including buildings, grounds, airfields, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electrical systems, building instrumentation, fleet maintenance, and/or custodial services; the provisions of safety codes, such as building codes, CAL/OSHA, fire codes, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, as applied to the operation, maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings, airport facilities, airfields, parking lots, and roadways; relevant City of Los Angeles and Personnel Department rules, policies, and procedures, such as Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and Memoranda of Understanding (MOU); the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Administration Manual; construction and maintenance diagrams such as schematics, plans, and specification; and other necessary skills, knowledge and abilities. This essay material will not be separately scored, but will be presented to the interview board for review and consideration, which may include discussion, in the overall evaluation of the candidate. Those who do not complete the advisory essay will not be invited to the interview and will be considered to have failed the entire examination. To be considered complete, the advisory essay must include a substantive response for each question or problem included in the advisory essay for which an applicant is required to provide an answer.
