Job Description and Duties Forestry Technician (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) - SONOMA-MENDOCINO COAST DISTRICT/MENDOCINO SECTOR/ RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK DISTRICT OFFI CE The reporting location for this position is Russian Gulch State Park District Office. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory). The Forestry Technician will assist natural resource management staff in SMCD in implementing projects for the protection, restoration, and management of natural resources in support of the State Parks Wildfire and Forest Resilience Program. This position may work up to 1500 hours per year/in a 12 consecutive month period. This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. Your primary duty station will be the historic and stunning Flying M Ranch, 9 Mile Ranch, and The Elbow. You will be supervising a dynamic team of seasonal staff, managing a diverse range of natural and historical resources, and diving headfirst into both fieldwork and administrative duties. You will be working varied hours and shifts, braving the elements in true ranger fashion, and even serving as a State Park peace officer, handling everything from citations to emergency situations. You'll also have some hands-on work from grounds maintenance to custodial duties, fee collection to interpretive programs, and even minor facility repairs. The physical agility exam consists of: a) Vertical jump of no less than 14 inches; b) The Illinois Agility Run in 19.5 seconds or less; c) complete not less than 30 sit-ups in 1 minute; d) complete not less than 23 consecutive push-ups; e) 300 meter run in 68 seconds or less; f) 1.5 mile run/walk in 16 minutes and 57 seconds or less; g) lift and carry a 70-90 pound bag of cement/sand from the ground and carry 10 feet to tailgate of a standard pick-up truck and then return, repeated three times; h) 100 yard swim in 5 minutes. Special Requirements Positions are subject to call back and must work various hours and/or shifts. Positions require statewide travel. Positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
