Introduction About the Position: Performs skilled work in all phases of large residential, commercial, and high profile projects to secure compliance with International Building codes, Inspection Services, Ordinances, Survey, Zoning Codes and Stipulations. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)equivalent. Three years construction work in one of the four major trades: plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building construction or a related field of inspection. Two years' inspection experience. An equivalent combination of construction experience may substitute for the inspection experience requirement. Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona. Must possess two International Code Council (ICC) Certifications in at least two of the four disciplines: Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Construction or, alternatively, possess a current Certified Building Official (CBO) Certification. Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work. Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment. i.e. OSHA Certification, Barricade Certification, Trench Certification. Essential Functions Operates a city vehicle to respond to customer inquiries at job sites. Inspects industrial and commercial buildings, larger single family and multi-family dwellings, townhouses, apartments, Natural Area Open Space (NAOS) areas, to ensure compliance with all relevant municipal codes. Approves work conforming to regulations; detects code violations and re-inspects to determine compliance. Performs specialized inspections at regular intervals to determine compliance with the municipal codes. Investigates complaints regarding unauthorized work in progress without proper permits, determines appropriate action and follows through for compliance. Provides code interpretations and other essential information to contractors and the general public about building requirements and inspection procedures. Provides quality customer service. Ensures the contractor/developer completes the project as designed. Read and visually interpret complex plans quickly and accurately and compare them to work in progress and to measure compliance. Operate a variety of standard office equipment, including a computer, telephone, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, and hand and eye movement. Operate measuring devices, camera, ladder, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Travel to/from meetings and various site inspections locations. Exposure to environmental conditions including dirt, temperature extremes, unsafe structures, heights, etc. Access areas at elevated levels in order to inspect for proper installation and at heights greater than ten feet to make inspections on walls, roofs, attics and crawl spaces. Reach, grip and move debris to gain access to or expose construction for inspection. Work typically involves some combination of bending, stooping, lifting arms above head, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (50 pounds). Walk across trenches and dirt piles. Climb ladders, stairs and scaffolding to perform inspections. Detect hazardous situations on construction sites. Distinguish the full range of the color spectrum in order to verify compliance with applicable electrical and other building material color codes.
