Job Description and Duties PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) - BAY AREA DISTRICT / SAN FRANCISCO BAY SECTOR Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKS recipient in the comments area on the application. Promotes conservation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. Responsible for interpreting the park's historical significance and biodiversity to a variety of audiences. Promotes conservation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. Responsible for interpreting the park's historical significance and biodiversity to a variety of audiences. Researches, plans, and conducts interpretive programs, tours, hikes, special events, and promotes outreach programs with schools, civic groups, scouts, and other organizations. Assists with the park's public outreach effort. Assists with the park's promotional efforts through social media and other outlets. Assists with managing the park's volunteer program, including both day volunteers and park hosts. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree. Experience: No experience required. Licensure: Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license. ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS Education: One year of experience in interpretation or conducting educational programs may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Conservation, Range Management, Forestry, Biology, Geology, Anthropology/Archeology, History, or closely related field. Experience: Experience in customer service; Experience in park operations; Experience in interpretation or conducting educational programs. Licensure: Currently a Certified Interpretive Guide, Certified Interpretive Host, or possession of a similar certification from the National Association for Interpretation (NAI).
