Description Tacoma Public Schools Expected Start Date: As soon as possible Salary Level: $16.25/hour Examples Of Duties This position, under the guidance of the Director of Facilities, is responsible for the technical operations of the Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) theatrical venues; provides technical support for TPS theater productions and events; directs theater staff; coordinates the scheduling of all TPS and community theater events; performs necessary maintenance, as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Monitors and performs preventive maintenance of theater equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; operates and maintains equipment, as required, and ensures it safe and proper use; protects TPS equipment and supplies from pilferage, loss, theft, and/or abuse. 6. Enforces established TPS operational and usage policies; arrange with the administrator to have annual inspections, repair, and replacement of required equipment within budget allocations. 7. May facilitate group discussions; compose technical and non-technical documents, as directed by administrator. OTHER JOB DUTIES 1. May be required to work on special projects. 2. Keep track of equipment inventory, as necessary. 3. Performs other related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis. 4. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent; coursework and training in Technical Theater, Intro Tech, Lighting, and Sound; Associate degree in business or theater, preferred; one years’ experience as a theater technician; educational environment, preferred; experience working with children, preferred; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work. Licenses/Special Requirements Valid Washington state driver’s license. Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance. Position Summary (Classified as: Performing Arts Technician II) Part-time (3/4 time-base; 0.75 FTE; 30 hours/week) position available on or after August 12, 2024 in the Theatre Department. This appointment is on the 10/12 pay plan position and works 10 months, paid over 12 months, with June 15 - August 15 off each year. The Costumer works independently with limited creative or technical direction and plays a pivotal role as a creative and technically adept member of the production team. They meticulously craft costumes according to design specifications, manage complex projects independently, prioritize safety and quality, and provide leadership by directing staff members and fostering collaboration, thereby contributing significantly to the success and seamless execution of productions. Job Duties Duties include but are not limited to: Utilize ingenuity, technical skills, and knowledge of production goals and themes to create and construct costumes according to design specifications. Tasks may include preparing and/or drafting new patterns, selecting and preparing materials, reconstructing existing costumes, creating new costumes from scratch, fabricating costume accessories and wigs, fitting costumes and making alterations, styling hair, applying makeup, repairing and restoring costumes, ordering supplies, and ensuring proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage of costumes. Independently handle more complex projects within the production specialty, including planning, organizing, and implementing for one or more productions. Manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously, demonstrating considerable judgment and discretion in material use and adherence to safety requirements. Work with minimal creative and technical direction, determining approaches to projects and priorities independently. Provide lead work direction to other staff members, ensuring coordination and effective collaboration within the production team. Minimum Qualifications Entry to the first level within this classification requires one to two years of experience working for a theater, repertory or stock company engaged in the applicable production specialty such as costume construction, stage and set construction, lighting production, and/or sound/audio production. This background normally would be achieved through professional training or applicable college coursework and practical experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Theater or related field. Three years of experience in a similar role within the performing arts or related industry. Position Summary (Classified as: Performing Arts Technician II) Part-time (3/4 time-base; 0.75 FTE; 30 hours/week) position available on or after August 12, 2024 in the Theatre Department. This appointment is on the 10/12 pay plan position and works 10 months, paid over 12 months, with June 15 - August 15 off each year. The Costumer works independently with limited creative or technical direction and plays a pivotal role as a creative and technically adept member of the production team. They meticulously craft costumes according to design specifications, manage complex projects independently, prioritize safety and quality, and provide leadership by directing staff members and fostering collaboration, thereby contributing significantly to the success and seamless execution of productions. Ability to identify and appropriate materials and supplies needed for projects and manage materials budgets for production specialty and specific projects. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Classification: Performing Arts Technician I / 0840 / 1 The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $20.90 - $26 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $20.90 - $37.82 per hour. HOURS: Intermittent, on-call; hours and schedule vary. This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
