Introduction Performs skilled maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of automotive and heavy-duty trucks and equipment, including fire apparatus and Solid waste vehicles. Trains and performs lead worker responsibilities for lower-level Fleet Technicians. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent. Must possess training, education and experience equivalent to seven years of experience as a mechanic in diverse automotive, heavy-duty trucks and equipment, transit buses and/or mobile equipment maintenance and repair. Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted. Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Position Highway Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify medium (GVWR 10,500-26,000 lbs.) and heavy (GVWR greater than 26,000 lbs.) highway maintenance and construction equipment. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is located within the Tonopah Equipment Shop. Incumbents diagnose, maintain, modify, and repair Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) equipment and are responsible for keeping equipment in the District's fleet in good repair for routine highway maintenance and emergency response. This includes a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment. Repairs include, but are not limited to, engine repair or replacement, repairing and rebuilding brake systems, steering and suspension system components, differential and drive line components, servicing of automatic and manual transmissions, electrical and wiring systems. Duties also include repairing, maintaining, fabricating, and installing parts, components, and special use items.
