ABOUT THE JOB: The Overdose Prevention and Response Strategist is a professional position that will serve a critical role to help Deschutes County and community partners reduce and prevent harms associated with drug use and drug overdose. The position serves as a content expert and is responsible for coordination of overdose prevention and surveillance to create progress toward the following goals: Improved community awareness to universal and targeted audiences; prevention and reduction of adolescent and young adult drug use; improved coordination with internal and external entities working on this issue; and ensuring a real-time surveillance response that enables community partners to quickly respond to overdose deaths and provide timely risk communication to prevent further death. Key Responsibilities: Specific measurable objectives this position will be responsible for within the first year are: Provision of on-going communication and awareness through multiple media strategies and audiences ensuring widespread Deschutes County reach. Overdose prevention education to a minimum of 10 organizations who engage with high risk populations to promote resources and access to Narcan. Develop a website on how to receive naloxone training and where to access naloxone and other important information and resources. Develop a network of agencies who provide naloxone and ensure access to naloxone in the community. Develop a surveillance tool to communicate overdose deaths in a timely manner. Develop an internal coordination plan for real-time surveillance and response to overdose alerts in Deschutes County. Oversee the real-time surveillance response that enables community partners to quickly respond to overdose deaths and provides timely risk communication to prevent further death. What You Will Bring: Knowledge of or experience with: Training, educating, and advocating with both community organizations and the general public on the use of evidence-supported prevention strategies. Collaborating across-systems to prevent drug overdose and encourage pathways to treatment. Local and regional planning to identify root causes of addiction and overdose, crafting goals for reducing harms related to the opioid epidemic, and identifying areas and populations with the greatest needs for treatment. Skill in: Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating quantitative and qualitative data. Presenting data, health information, and concepts to a varied audience of community member professionals and partner agencies.
