The Fresno County Library is offering challenging and rewarding career opportunities for highly motivated individuals interested in pursuing career advancement as a Supervising Librarian.
The Supervising Librarian, reporting to a Principal Librarian, is responsible for supervising assigned staff engaged in a variety of activities ranging from routine clerical work to providing library services to patrons and professional librarians. Supervisory responsibilities include planning, evaluating, and implementing goals and objectives; program development; budget preparation and maintenance; selection and purchase of books and materials; scheduling work and establishing policies and procedures; and interviewing, selecting, training, disciplining, and promoting subordinates.
The current vacancy is in the San Joaquin Valley Library System (SJVLS) division, a Joint Powers Agency consisting of 10 library systems and 106 library branches. SJVLS provides networking and library automation services to their members. The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of the library management software, currently the Horizon ILS, as well as supervising and coordinating the work of two librarians. Experience with ILS is preferred.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group II - Moderate Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require moderate physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) 10-25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Generally, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.
