The Assistant Professor of Art Education carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching and development of courses that cover art education theories and practices in PK-12 settings. Courses cover diverse themes in art education, including developmental theory, issues of visual culture, media & visual literacy and current topics such as STEAM education and sustainability. The candidate will also be required to perform student advising as well as Department and University committee work. Candidates will need to demonstrate commitment to both research and teaching methods. Student populations within art education courses include majors in art education, art studio, liberal studies, and other majors. Candidates must be able to use traditional and innovative methods to engage students of diverse backgrounds. The person selected will play an active role in the further development of our art education program. The successful candidate must be committed to teamwork within the art education area and the department, thus adding to the creative and intellectual life of the department and its students. Opportunities for teamwork include resource development, a guest speakers program, exhibition development, internship programs, symposium development, and formal and informal class connections with colleagues.
