Anticipated Hiring Range

$4,583 to $5,000 per month ($54,996 to $60,000 annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

This position reports to the Dean of the College, with lead work direction from the Director of Marketing. This position's primary responsibilities include content writing and editing marketing materials for print and digital media in collaboration with the college's various teams. Platforms include but not limited to email campaigns, social media sites and any other platforms as directed. The Content Marketing Specialist will help drive messaging to prospective students via engaging and targeted marketing campaigns and call to action through multiple digital and print mediums. The specialist will merge marketing, communications and project management skills with the goal to increase our enrollments. They will use proactive communication and reporting out to all stakeholders to facilitate maximum engagement. The specialist will be expected to liaise with appropriate University departments and other marketing staff to ensure proper and consistent branding and accessibility protocols are followed.

Position Information

Content creation
  • Responsible for creating and editing copy for print and digital mediums and including and not limited to social media content, email campaigns, print materials with stories of student success, faculty interviews and other content as needed.
  • Support College enrollment goals via tailored and target communications to various constituents via social media, email campaigns, print collateral and other tools as directed
  • Coordinate quality, consistency, clarity, brevity, accuracy, and readability of all content
  • Develop stories that effectively communicate with specific audiences with specific interests - e.g., Domestic Students, International students, etc. and create compelling, impactful headlines and calls to action.
  • Support the management and maintenance of the overall quality and execution of marketing content from project beginning to completion by organizing writing schedules to complete drafts of content or finished projects within deadlines, creating an editorial calendar, and collaborating with other members of the CEL team to ensure timely delivery of materials
  • Utilize industry best practices and familiarity with the organization's mission to inspire ideas and content.

Research and Marketing Campaigns
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of key performance indicators (KPIs) to offer suggestions for improvement of email marketing
  • Support all CEL program needs by researching new and continually evolving content sharing mediums, styles and standards using various tools available
  • Support and keep current a database of content writing assets for the college

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to the first level within this classification requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years' experience and proven results in content writing, email campaigns, social media posts in higher education
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet multiple deadlines
  • Must communicate ideas clearly and concisely as needed
  • Experience working with email marketing tools like Constant Contact, Pardot (or similar) and social media channels (primarily - Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in creating strategies, working collaboratively, meeting deadlines - all the while building the customer experience
  • Understanding and maintaining the voice of the brand and adhering to the style guide for SF State
  • Passionate about your work, collaborating with our team and bringing creative and innovative ideas with you
