This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of light, medium, and/or heavy-sized construction equipment to include routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and possible assistance in repair of assigned equipment. Tasks include but are not limited to maintenance and construction of Charleston County open and closed stormwater drainage systems, and street and sidewalks. Starting salary is based upon experience and other job specific qualifications as well as demonstrated skill level.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I GRADE: TECH 04 HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $18.41 -- $23.34
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II GRADE: TECH 05 HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $19.51 - $26.14
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III GRADE: TECH 06 HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $21.53 - $29.29

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include: driving/operating tandem and/or small trucks, small and large bulldozers, backhoes, front-end loaders, sidearm tractor, small farm tractor, vacuum sweeper, fuel or lube truck, hydraulic excavator, motor grader (fine grade), tractor trucks, tractor-trailer (lowboy), compaction equipment, etc. Helping to construct and maintain County roads; drainage canals, ditches; installing drainage pipes, maintaining and clearing right-of-ways, assisting with the herbicide application program, along with various construction projects. Work is performed according to orders and instructions from supervisor and accepted trade practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires high school diploma (or GED) supplemented by a minimum one year to four years of work experience in the operation of medium, heavy, and complex construction equipment required for different operator position levels.Closing Date/Time: 1/2/2022 11:59 PM Eastern
