PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Ph.D., or equivalent in Soil Science, Rangeland Ecology and Management, or closely related field from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment. PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence, building a strong research record, and authentic lab and field experiences, including developing and leading field trips. Depending on successful candidate’s background and experience, instructional assignments may include: Soil Origin and Classification (SOIL 360), Soil Fertility (SOIL 462), Soil Management and Erosion Control (SOIL 460), Soil Microbiology (SOIL 465), Soil Physics (SOIL 467), and/or Rangeland Management Principles (RRS 306), as well as the possibility to develop an upper division elective in the candidate’s area of expertise. Participation in the core courses in Rangeland Resource Science is strongly desired for future accreditation of our program by the Society for Range Management. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students. The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship, and creative activity; and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide communities, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by approximately one course each semester. Our Rangeland Resource Science major is the only range major offered in California and one of few programs that qualifies graduates for Rangeland Management Specialist with the federal government and with sufficient classes for candidates to sit for the CA Certified Rangeland Manager exam. The Position Positions in this series manage, supervise and participate in wildland fire suppression; fire prevention and education; presuppression; equipment and facility maintenance; and forestry and fire law enforcement. Assist the Forestry Program Manager - Fire to ensure that the components of the divisions Wildland Fire Protection Program are managed and operated in an efficient, accurate and safe manner consistent with federal, State, and division regulations, policies and procedures. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Nevada Division of Forestry's mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland fire management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants and other native flora. Under general direction of the Forestry Program Manager - Fire, incumbents manage the long term and day- to-day operations of the Wildland Fire Protection Program to include: prevention, fuels management, rehabilitation and suppression. The Fire Management Officer works closely with state, federal, and local cooperators, as well as landowners, to ensure adequate wildland fire response across boundaries to schedule prevention, education and mitigation; to assist with fire prevention and defensible space inspections; and to implement fuel reduction, prescribed burn, and rehabilitation projects as directed. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
