The mission of the Division of Inclusive Excellence is to ensure that the University's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is embedded throughout all aspects of the University and its operation. Inclusive Excellence is charged to provide vision, leadership, and support to the university as it works to achieve its goal of being a welcoming and caring campus where all members of the Hornet Family belong. Embedded within this goal is ensuring the success of all our students as well as the faculty, staff, administrators, and other Sacramento State stakeholders.
The Communications and Programs Specialist reports to the VP of Inclusive Excellence and University Diversity Officer and leads the communications and program management of the entire Division of Inclusive Excellence (IE) including Inclusive Excellence and the Office for Equal Opportunity (OEO). The position requires a high level of strategic and creative thinking, collaborative expertise, and the keen ability to manage the procedural and technical logistics of different forums. The incumbent is held accountable for building and supervising the division's communication systems to enhance the division's visibility, enable consistent and continuous messaging to the campus community and analyze the effectiveness of how the division promotes and supports the university's DEI efforts and initiatives. The incumbent also serves as the point of contact and administrative manager who ensures the smooth execution of divisional programs, meetings, trainings and events that involve intricate behind-the-scenes attention to detail, clear communication and collaborative with multiple campus units and ongoing assessment of quality and effectiveness of Inclusive Excellence and the Office for Equal Opportunity's offerings.

The Division of Inclusive Excellence is responsible for ensuring that Sacramento State's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is both evident throughout our University and communicated to the larger Sacramento community.

Entry to the first level within this classification requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification. Required Qualifications
1. Expertise in administration, project development/management, event planning and/or communications/public relations including demonstrated track record of establishing work plans, deadlines and budgets.
2. Experience administering multiple priorities, coordinating simultaneous projects, anticipating and addressing problems proactively while producing accurate, detail-oriented results.
3. Experience designing, creating, and managing multiple communication platforms including but not limited to web sites and social media.
4. Expertise in using office software packages, technology and systems (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint) as well as virtual platforms such as Zoom and livestreaming technology.General Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

6. Strong leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to work in collaborative environment.
7. Demonstrated ability to promote, expand and continuously assess the mission, vision and values of the Division for Inclusive Excellence while also contributing to the growth, increased visibility and future vision of the division.
8. Ability to be critical, creative, self-motivated and work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, ever-changing university environment.
9. Demonstrated ability to lead and administer the areas of communication and programming for the Division for Inclusive Excellence to help ensure the division effectively supports the university's DEI needs.
10. Demonstrated ability to oversee and operationalize the planning, detailed logistics and successful execution of large and small-scale programs including those that are university-wide and require coordination across several departments, units and offices.
11. Demonstrated ability to design, implement and assess a communication plan that uses multiple mediums (e.g., web pages, graphic design, social media, film, video, chat, etc.) to promote university DEI initiatives, programs, trainings, events, etc.
12. Ability to analyze policies and procedures from a DEI lens that is both broad and specific to then develop, recommend, and evaluate innovative solutions.
13. Demonstrated ability to track, report and communicate progress on various projects both internally to the division and externally to university leadership and campus community.
14. Ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to documents, communications, and interactions and exercise discretion with regards to highly sensitive information and interpersonal situations.
15. Demonstrated ability to foster and embrace effective working relationships, communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, productive atmosphere within and outside the Division for Inclusive Excellence and University.
16. Demonstrated ability to value all aspects a diverse university population and support faculty, staff, administrators and students of various cultural backgrounds, life experiences and intersectional identities.
17. Ability to assist with and troubleshoot the daily administrative and operational needs of the Division for Inclusive Excellence.
