Job Description and Duties Environmental Scientist - Colorado Desert DISTRICT / Natural Resources / Anza-Borrego Desert The reporting location for this position is Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in Borrego Springs, CA. This position will work under the direction of Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory). This position is responsible for the identification, scoping, budgeting, implementation and reporting of projects to mitigate and repair cannabis cultivation impacts through remediation and restoration, and development and implementation of protective strategies within the Colorado Desert District (CDD), which includes Anza-Borrego Desert, Cuyamaca Rancho and Palomar Mountain State Parks. This Lead position is expected to work as part of the interdisciplinary Cannabis Watershed Protection Program and will also exercise a moderate level of independent action, project oversite and field crew leadership. Field portions of this position will often be located in extreme and remote portions of the Colorado Desert District and will require long hours outside in remote and extreme weather conditions. The position may be responsible for developing project goals and guidelines, written crew protocols and scheduling, leading the work of others, such as Environmental Services Interns and student assistants and acting as State Park representative. Overnight travel or site camping may be required irregularly. Office work activity is expected to be five, eight hour working days per week (up to 40 hours per week), while Field activity may require you to work longer than 8 hours per day and perform arduous field work in rugged, steep terrain above to 5000 feet elevation and may require hiking of up to 10 miles a day. Flexibility of work schedule during the week will be key for fieldwork timing and duration of some projects. Field sites may be located in extremely remote backcountry areas and weather conditions can vary in the extremes. Field locations vary but can see temperatures above 105F and below freezing annually. Field work may require the use of helicopters or other heavy machinery, 4x4 unpaved/offroad driving conditions and varied hours based on project. Job Description and Duties LIFEGUARD (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) - INLAND EMPIRE DISTRICT / SILVERWOOD SECTOR / SILVERWOOD LAKE STATE RECREATION AREA The reporting location for this position is Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area located at 14651 Cedar Circle, Hesperia, CA. This position will work under the general supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor (Ranger). The reporting location for this position is the Silverwood Lake SRA, located at 14651 Cedar Circle, Hesperia, CA 92345. This position will work under the general direction of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor (Lifeguard). This position works with Visitor Service staff and Maintenance staff to effectively carry out the District's aquatic safety program. Detect and respond to aquatic emergencies to include persons and vessels in distress. Respond to visitor accidents and provide emergency medical services within the Silverwood Lake SRA. Effective communication both verbally and in writing of state park rules, regulations, and procedures as well as maintaining a work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment is essential in this position. A commitment to the Department mission, values, goals, while emphasizing the Director's Strategtic Action Plan for the Department is critical to the success in this position. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid driver license of the appropriate class issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, and Possession of (1) a current Department of Parks and Recreation Emergency Medical Responder certificate or equivalent; and (2) a current Department of Parks and Recreation Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED), American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent certificate. A current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate that is approved by the Department of Emergency Medical Services Authority may be substituted for both of the required certificates. and Equivalent to six months of experience performing the duties of an open water lifeguard in other than swimming pools or water parks. Special Physical Characteristics Physical strength, endurance, and agility necessary to perform lifesaving activities; ability to swim at a level to perform lifesaving activities; mentally alert; hearing in each ear sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job; a best-corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye; an uncorrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better in each eye; a peripheral visual field of at least 120 degrees horizontally and 100 degrees vertically in each eye; normal color vision, as determined by Ishihara or other color plate tests; pass a swimming/running performance test as determined by the Department prior to appointment and on an annual basis. The Parks and Recreation Department at the City of Olathe is looking for individuals who possess a Class B CDL with passenger endorsement to work with school age kids at one of five outdoor summer camps at our beautiful Olathe parks. Assist campers with self-selected activities. Assist with preparing, serving, and cleaning up snack. Receive the appropriate training if necessary: child abuse and neglect awareness, signs and symptoms of illness, and Olathe seasonal employee training. Experience & Qualification Guidelines: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Experience: Must be 21 or older and hold valid CDL with proper endorsements for passengers and bus.Minimum or 1 year working with school age youth. Education:Must have high school diploma or GED.Prefer counselors have some college education relating to child development or education.
