Transportation Safety and Operations Division - Signal Design Engineer I/II positions in the Signals Design team provide traffic signal-related management and support services throughout the City of San José. Key duties include, but are not limited to: Prepare reports and materials and provide engineering support to coordinate activities with maintenance crews to ensure sanitary and storm collection systems and accompanying assets are operated and maintained to ensure compliance with all permits and regulations. Perform investigation and recommend solution(s) for ponding issues Assist in preparing sanitary maps for line cleaning crews and document line
cleaning progress. Support the documentation of sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) including field investigation, as-built research, and reporting to appropriate agencies. Review construction plans to ensure designs are optimized to provide for the maintenance needs for sanitary and storm collection systems and accompanying assets. Perform hydraulic checks for proposed sanitary and storm facilities. Perform gas readings, dye tests, and water sampling when needed for proposed sanitary and storm facilities. Perform inspection of trash capture devices and record findings. Prepare maintenance records and performance measure data to satisfy regulatory requirements. Conduct field investigations related to city and resident concerns. Prepare intra- and interdepartmental and resident correspondence to communicate findings with counterparts in other sections, Departments, and residents. Lead daily tasks of Engineering Technicians and Student interns within the Division. Assist in preparation of training materials for office and field staff. Infrastructure Maintenance (IM) Division - Pavement Engineering The Engineer I/II position for the IM Division, Pavement Engineering group is responsible for delivering City's annual pavement capital improvement projects for the entire network of 2,519 miles of streets with an annual budget of over $90 million per year. This position reports directly to an Associate Engineer and supervises Engineering Technicians and interns. Key duties include, but are not limited to: Manage multiple projects from planning to design, procurement, construction, and close out phase for major streets network pavement and ADA curb ramp projects. Provide input and assistance in implementing new and innovative pavement/ADA curb ramp maintenance strategies (i.e., new processes/asset management strategies, and etc.) Develop both short-term and long-term work plans for both pavement and ADA curb ramp maintenance program.
