Job Location: Jackson Project Office The traffic intern d uties may range from technician-level to entry-level professional depending on student knowledge, skills, and abilities. Reviews work relating to roadway access, traffic handling, and excavation proposed on department right of way, and performs inspections of projects to ensure compliance with specifications set forth in permits. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision. What you'll do: Reviews work zone requests for work zone activity's impact to traffic and the community. Determines traffic volume on roadways and codes data for computer processing and provides recommendations. Attends meetings with contractors, developers, governmental entities, individuals, and utility companies to explain procedures and department policies on granting permits. May issue permits; assists in the review, preparation, documentation, and inspection of permit activities. Performs initial field site reviews by documenting existing conditions using photo logs and video. Attends field inspections of projects and work zones and performs measurements of traffic control devices to ensure compliance with departmental standards. Performs routine monitoring of field traffic devices such as signs, signals, and roadway marking, with limited decision-making capabilities. Interacts with internal and external customers in order to answer traffic-related questions, respond to complaints and requests, or to discuss traffic control ordinances, plans, policies, and procedures. Minimum Qualifications Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program; for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited. Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0. Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.
