ABOUT THE POSITION The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Skilled Trades Worker - Building Maintenance position. This position p erforms semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, security and structural systems and elements of Department of Aviation and local agency buildings and facilities. Further, this position assists in performing carpentry, electrical, electronic, plumbing, cement and painting work. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility List to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time skilled trades experience performing installation, maintenance or repair work. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Assists in performing rough and finish carpentry, including cabinetry, shelves, dividers, paneling and partitions; assists in installing ceiling and flooring materials; installs locks, closing devices and other door and window hardware; prepares forms for cement laying and assists in the finishing of cement projects. Assists in performing painting to interior and exterior building surfaces; prepares surfaces for painting, protects surrounding surfaces and uses a variety a methods to apply paint or other covering materials such as brushes, rollers and spray equipment. Assists in maintaining and servicing a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools; uses and restocks a small inventory of frequently used supplies and hardware. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. May direct the work of less skilled assistants on a specific team assignment; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed. May independently perform maintenance and repair work of a routine or standard nature in the craft area to which assigned. The incumbent will perform or assist with routine grounds work which includes, but is not limited to: • Mowing, trimming, tree maintenance, playground maintenance, maintenance and grooming of cross-country ski trails, plowing and snow removal, as well as maintenance and upkeep of the recycling center. • Perform routine maintenance of a variety of mechanical equipment including mowers, tractors, chainsaws, snowplows, and snow grooming equipment. • Coordinate special event setup and breakdown. • Remove trash and other debris from buildings and surrounding areas. • Assist with the hazardous tree program year-round, which will include assessing of trees under program criteria, recommend appropriate action, proper pruning and removal of trees (including stumps), thorough record keeping, along with the production and delivery of firewood. • Address complaints or inquiries from park patrons. • Perform necessary pesticide-based pest/vegetation control measures on an as-needed basis in managed outdoor areas and document per NYS Department of Environmental Conservation requirements. • Operate commercial vehicles as needed to assist with operational tasks such as the regional garbage truck, bucket truck, dump trucks, etc. Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: • Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or be able to obtain a Class B Driver’s License within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.** • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. • Must be available to work a variable schedule that may include holidays and/or evening shifts. • Must possess Game of Logging 1, 2, and 3 certifications or be able to obtain Game of Logging 1, 2, and 3 certifications within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment. • Must possess a NYS Category 3A Pesticide Technician Certification from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) or be able to obtain a NYS Category 3A Pesticide Technician Certification from NYS DEC within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment. • Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. • Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under challenging conditions. **Under the provision of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive.
