The City of Dunedin is located on central Florida's west coast, in the heart of Pinellas County's Suncoast. The Community Development Department is responsible for management of the Comprehensive Plan; administration of Dunedin's Land Development Code to include planning, zoning and development of the City's land parcels; enforcement and administration of the Florida Building Code and the City’s Property Maintenance Code (code enforcement); and the implementation of Dunedin's 2025 Visioning Plan. The Director of Community Development reports to the City Manager and oversees 17.5 FTEs and a departmental budget of $3.38 million.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field, supplemented by a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, code compliance, and zoning administration, five (5) of which are in a supervisory capacity and with a regulatory or government agency. Certification from American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered. The Director of Community Development position is a Category A position for the purposes of Emergency Management. Employees in this category may be assigned to work a variety of schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations. The salary range is $83,356-$133,370.
