DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES
The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest health system in the nation, providing compassionate, quality care through its integrated system of hospitals and community-based clinics. DEFINITION:
Maintains County offices, hospitals, health and correctional facilities, institutions, and buildings in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition.

Essential Job Functions
  • Performs routine and periodic cleaning or disinfecting of surfaces in offices, restrooms, corridors, stairways, storerooms, procedure rooms and other assigned areas.
  • Cleans hard and soft surface floors using brooms, dry and wet mops, and automated scrubbers.
  • Scrubs, strips, waxes, and buffs hard surface floors using powered equipment.
  • Dusts, wipes, and polishes furniture, furnishings, and fixtures.
  • Cleans windows, partitions and door glass, mirrors, and other surfaces using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, towels, and squeegees; may work on ladders.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and replenishes supplies in restrooms, break rooms, nurses station, exam room, etc.
  • Use chemicals as necessary, to clean and disinfect surfaces in surgical areas, isolation rooms, patient and non-patient areas, etc.
  • Empties waste receptacles, and replaces plastic liners; removes domestic and medical waste as necessary.
  • Moves and clean under equipment and furniture as necessary.
  • Maintains required work records and documentations, and interacts with patients and/or the public.

Requirements
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
Three months' full-time*, experience performing custodial duties.
*Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 40-hour workweek. Work performed part-time will be prorated on a month-to-month basis.

PHYSICAL CLASS III:
3 - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This is a noncompetitive examination. This examination is intended to merely qualify applicants. Applicants will be placed on an eligible register without indication of relative standing in the examination.

Notice of Result for this examination will be sent electronically to candidates upon promulgation of the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applicants will be processed on an as received basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly. The names of candidates will be placed on the eligible register for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of promulgation.
Applicants will be placed on an eligible register without indication of relative standing in the examination. The appointing power may appoint any one of the names on the appropriate register, except that a person without veteran's credit may not be appointed if there are three or more names on the list of persons entitled to veteran's credit.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY 12 MONTHS.

SPECIAL INFORMATION :
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
