Introduction About the Position: The Maintenance Worker II - CDL performs semi-skilled heavy equipment operation work in the pavement maintenance patch crew. Essential Functions Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following: Monitors City streets for deficiencies in: paved driving, walking, and drainage surfaces. Receives notices of deficiencies through varied communications and schedule repairs. Determines quantity of materials needed for workload and orders materials for pick up. Sets up safe and effective traffic control and repair deficiencies in pavement including but not limited to: potholes, trench failures, utility cuts, etc. Responds to emergency calls to secure: road hazards, debris spills, sidewalk tripping hazards, and drainage structure failures. Completes work orders, routes, time sheets, and safety checklists in a complete and readable manner. Operates a personal computer to complete automated timesheet and receive a list of work orders through the Pavement Management System. Operates various equipment and a motor vehicle such as, a P-B Patching Unit and Truck, walk behind roller, hydraulic breakers, tampers, air compressors, flat beds, lift gate, pickup trucks, front end loader, bobcat, and hand tools. Work Environment/Physical Demands Perform manual work that requires: standing and walking/moving continuous periods of time, digging, lifting, bending and standing, climbing elevations. Access paved, gravel, or turf park areas to perform general grounds maintenance functions. May operate small and medium hand-held equipment weighing up to 50 pounds such as: blowers, weed eaters, trimmers, edgers, chain saws, mowers, and power washers. May operate heavy equipment including: tractor, back hoe, front loader, trencher, dump truck, walk behind roller, hydraulic breakers, and bobcat. Use manual tools such as rakes and shovels. Exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, inclement weather, chemicals, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, and unpleasant odors. Visual and muscular dexterity to operate: equipment, hand tools, computer, two-way radio, a small tractor, and a city truck or EZ-GO.
