Employment Status: Full-time, "non-exempt", probationary position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Under the general supervision of the General Accounting Manager, the Accountant I primary function is the performance of professional accounting work.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
The incumbent requires the application of theories, principles, and practices of the accounting profession.
The incumbent shall be primarily responsible for a variety of tasks and duties such as:
Preparing and posting journal entries both internal and external to record fund transactions;
Preparing and posting transfers;
Performing detailed account analysis and reconciliations;
Assisting with the monthly and year-end closing process;
Preparing and updating procedure desk manual as it relates to job tasks;
Assisting with regularly occurring audits, and special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
The incumbent will also provide guidance and assistance to other employees on campus as it relates to general accounting.
The incumbent will interact with various departments on campus as well as outside agencies on a regular basis.
Other duties as assigned.
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
The applicant must have knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, internal controls, and audit compliance.
The applicant must have an in-depth knowledge of various software applications such as Excel, Word, and Access.
The applicant must have advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems.
Applicants must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Applicants must be able to successfully work with a wide range of campus personnel.
Applicants must possess the ability to apply accounting principles to the analysis of complex accounting problems and be able to analyze and interpret accounting data and prepare clear, accurate financial statements and reports.
Applicants must have the ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and be able to make sound decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities.
The applicant with three (3) years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience is preferred.
The applicant with experience in governmental accounting methods and related laws, regulations, and rules is desirable.
The applicant with working knowledge of accounting systems in a university setting and PeopleSoft financials is highly desirable.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
