POSITION PURPOSE: The School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics & Engineering’s (NSME) technical support staff play a critical role in supporting the School’s and CSUB’s mission, vision, and values. Under general supervision of the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, & Engineering, and with daily lead direction from the department chair for Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Instructional Support Technician II offers comprehensive technical support by providing materials, supplies, chemicals, specimens, equipment-related logistical support, and technical expertise for a variety of lower and upper division laboratory courses, and research activities for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Duties require an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the discipline, laboratory techniques and methods, etc. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Department Laboratory Course Support Independently organize and schedule the preparation of biochemical and chemical materials, supplies, and technical and non-technical equipment for laboratory courses. Prepare solutions and provide chemicals used in laboratory courses. Department Laboratory Maintenance and Supplies Procure hard to find materials. Make direct purchases. Evaluate and determine quality and suitability of materials. Issue, store, and inventory materials, supplies and equipment. Assist faculty and solve problems related to materials substitutions, costs, or new equipment using thorough knowledge of the discipline; evaluate and determine substitutions in emergencies. Ensure the stockroom and laboratories are clean and orderly. Adjust and calibrate technical equipment as needed. Repair or arrange for repair and overhaul of equipment including technical and science equipment. Act as a liaison with equipment technicians; communicate equipment needs or problems. Job Summary Under the general direction of the Plant Sciences department head and in consultation with the Plant Sciences Operations Manager, this individual primarily oversees the orchard production areas and associated facilities, with additional responsibilities at facilities and land areas including, but not limited to the Horticulture & Crop Units greenhouses and field production areas. The incumbent will be responsible for the orchards’ irrigation and fertilization program, including but not limited to the installation, operation, and maintenance of filtration, irrigation and chemigation systems; the orchards’ integrated pest management program, including scouting, and the appropriate selection and use of pesticides and other control measures; and environment and operational (i.e. labeling and tractor computer) systems. Position Summary Under the general supervision of the School Director, the Equipment Technician will perform preventive maintenance, repair, assembly or fabrication, and installation of the School’s equipment in specialized facilities that support creative practice in ceramics, furniture design and woodworking, jewelry and metalwork, book arts and printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, graphic design, interior architecture, and multimedia. The Equipment Technician will collaborate with members of the School on the proper use of tools, equipment, and materials; inventory, order, pick-up, and stock supplies and equipment parts; and maintain a safe and healthy working and learning environment. The Equipment Technician will serve as the School of Art and Design’s safety monitor and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) liaison. These roles entail oversight of the School’s safety forms, information gathering for Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) compliance reports, and support of faculty and staff to develop and enforce safety procedures. Major Duties Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician engages in human genomics research, and is primarily responsible for supporting faculty, keeping all experiments running in the research lab, and training students (research assistants). Major Duties Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician engages in human genomics research, and is primarily responsible for supporting faculty, keeping all experiments running in the research lab, and training students (research assistants). Typical Duties Oversee and perform managerial, consultative, technical, and high-level administrative duties.
