The City and County of Denver's Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is seeking a highly motivated, innovative and progressive individual to fill our Construction Inspector position in our Building Inspection Services work group.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in performing building construction/building site inspections to assure compliance with the Denver Building Code and Amendments related to the International Building Cod and International Residential Building Code.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Performs complex on-site inspections on new construction, alterations, and roofing construction on all types of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure and enforce compliance with the Denver Building Code and Amendments related to the International Building Code and International Residential Building Code
  • Monitor compliance or non-compliance with regulations by making an initial inspection during the first phase of construction and following up with further inspections throughout the construction project
  • Investigate complaints of code violations, recommend appropriate corrective and/or enforcement action which may include issuing "stop work" orders, summons, and/or canceling permits; and re-investigate to verify code compliance
  • Prepare electronic and written reports and maintains records of inspections performed
  • Complies with standard safety rules and procedures common to the trade


The selected candidate must provide their own vehicle to perform field inspections. Mileage is paid in accordance with the standard IRS rate.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 pm (some weekend or alternative work hours may be requested)

About You

Our ideal candidate has:
  • Experience inspecting construction/building sites to ensure compliance with applicable codes
  • Experience investigating complaints of code violations and recommending appropriate corrective and/or enforcement action
  • Knowledge of layout of the City and County of Denver streets
  • Familiarity with the following software programs: Accela Permit Tracking System and Alfresco Document Management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively - verbally and in writing
  • Efficiently demonstrates excellent time/work management skills
  • Works well under pressure and able to multitask
  • Problem solver that can envision various outcomes and plan accordingly to mitigate risky outcomes
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • Self-motivated and motivated to help others
  • Ability to work as part of a team to support both internal and external customers
  • Dependable and can maintain confidentiality
  • Familiarity with the following software programs: Accela Permit Tracking System and Alfresco Document Management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint is preferred.

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of construction experience which may include inspection work and/or design experience.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Possession of one of the following certifications by the end of the probationary period:


• International Code Council Certification as a Building Inspector.
• International Code Council Certification as a Residential Combination Inspector.
• International Code Council Certification as a Commercial Inspector.
• International Code Council Certification as a General Contractor.
• Supervisor Certificate - Construction A issued by the City and County of Denver.
• International Code Council Certification as a National Standard Roofing Contractor/Subcontractor - N14
• International Code Council Certification as a National Standard Shingle Roofing - N15 Certification

Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
