General Purpose Under general supervision, oversees and maintains the horticultural resources of Fresno City College (FCC) including the botanical garden, greenhouse and koi pond; conducts walking tours of the garden and tree collection for the public and student groups; provides instructional assistance to faculty and students in biology, botany and adaptive horticulture courses of study; and performs related duties as assigned. Prepares, sets up and performs demonstrations of biology and botany principles such as photosynthesis, plant propagation, plant types and others; prepares biological specimens for classroom use; prepares flora and fauna displays for use in plant identification; responds to student questions regarding concepts, methods and techniques; provides clear and concise explanations and demonstrations to facilitate student understanding and reinforce instructor teaching; assists faculty and students during greenhouse-based laboratory activities; monitors students as they receive hands-on learning in the greenhouse and botanical gardens. Demonstrates the proper and safe use of laboratory equipment and the proper use, storage and disposal of pesticides, chemicals and other hazardous materials; maintains and updates Materials Safety Data Sheet notebooks as required by law; maintains accident report guidance documents and files of accident reports; arranges for pickup of hazardous waste. Stocks and replenishes an inventory of materials and consumables; tracks supplies usage; prepares purchase requisitions to ensure sufficient materials for laboratory, greenhouse and botanic gardens use; arranges for major repair or replacement of tools and equipment. Participates in selecting, training and providing day-to-day lead work direction to student assistants, aides and volunteers; assigns and monitors work for completeness, accuracy and conformance with District, department and legal/regulatory requirements and standards; provides information, instruction and training on work procedures and technical, legal and regulatory and safety requirements; assists in ensuring a fair, open and inclusive work environment in accordance with the District's mission goals and values. Leads walking tours of the gardens for the public, school groups and FCC class groups; provides information on tree and plant species and their origins. Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of historically minoritized groups and participates in professional development activities to increase cultural competency to enhance equity-minded practices within the District. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE An associate degree or completion of a certificate program in horticulture or another relevant field, and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in horticulture or nursery management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program. A valid pesticide applicator's license issued by the State of California Department of Pesticide Regulations. Minimum Qualifications Education and/or Equivalent Experience: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, plus two (2) years of experience in a field related to hazardous waste management, environmental consulting, or environmental planning/research. Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years. Licenses or Certifications: None Notes to Applicants Austin Resource Recovery ( ARR ) is an organization of 500 plus employees that provides residential curbside collection of trash, recycling, and composting to the residents of the Austin metropolitan area. Additional services include bulk and large brush collection, street sweeping, dead animal collection, and a drop-off center for hard-to-recycle items and household hazardous waste. The Environmental Program Specialist ( EPS ) is a customer service-oriented position that assists with the collection of household hazardous waste from residents. This position will work within the Diversion Facilities Division at the Household Hazardous Waste collections facility. The EPS is in charge of receiving, identifying, segregating, and storing bulk/package hazardous waste from residential households per TCEQ , DOT , and EPA regulations. They set up, break down, and clean the Household Hazardous Waste facility. The EPS coordinates with waste disposal companies on packing and loading hazardous waste for transportation and they act as the primary contact for customer inquiries. This key role will review hazardous waste contracts from all City of Austin departments and assist them with proper disposal and handling of hazardous waste. This position will require some lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods of time, and will be working in the elements under open shelter while wearing personal protective equipment ( PPE ). Communication & Collaboration Coordination Assists the AVP & DOS and the Leadership Team (managers and directors of DSL) in day-to-day operations, communications, meetings, memos, minutes, and divisional initiatives. Position Summary The Division of Graduate Studies and Career Development (GSCD) offers several signature undergraduate and graduate student experiences connecting students to opportunities, including large-scale career fairs, graduate school research and competitions, and other associated division events. Reporting to the Director of Career & Leadership Development, the Events & Marketing Specialist will support the planning, logistics, marketing, communication, and execution of division events. Position Information Graduate Studies & Career Development Event Planning & Coordination Work with the Associate Dean and supervisor to plan, coordinate, promote, and execute all aspects of major, campus-wide career, graduate studies, and division events. Oversee planning and scheduling of major division events and programs, including , but not limited to, Part-Time Job Fairs, Grad School Fair, Career Fairs, Graduate Research & Creative Works Showcase, the CSU Research Competition, and Grad Slam. Coordinate department participation in programs and events including, but not limited to, New Student Orientation, Gator Fest, student life events, and special tabling events. Work collaboratively with other department staff in planning specialized events. Marketing and Communication Develop and maintain a marketing and communications calendar for the division. Collaborate with Graphic Designer on promotional and marketing collateral for various division events. Ensure that social media and website content related to division events, programs, services, etc., is up-to-date and accurate. Use Handshake to manage content for event details, announcements and registration. Prepare and distribute graduate event announcements to the graduate student & faculty community, send formal invitations to selected campus partners. Utilize email marketing platforms, campus flyers, and social media to increase event visibility. Collaborate with University Communications to coordinate publicity and maximize event awareness, as well as maintain a consistent University message and branding. Employer Engagement Work with employers to develop marketing strategies for enhancement of employer presence on campus, which includes, but not limited to: campus recruitment, job postings, internships, career fairs, and class/organization presentations. Actively communicate concerns or requests for additional information to employers on a consistent basis. Promote positive employer relationships and assist employers in setting up Handshake profile; contact employers by phone or email; host and/or visit local businesses, government, and organizations to develop opportunities. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of recruiting and market trends to share regularly with all staff members. Use trends and assessment data to conceptualize, propose, and initiate new and innovative solutions to best engage with employers, manage events, and reach departmental goals. The Case Manager will assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the actions required to address both academic and nonacademic barriers to student success for Rising Scholars students. This position will not serve in a clinical capacity (i.e., provide psychotherapy to students), but will perform case management duties, provide individual appointments with students, needs assessments, facilitate referral access and service utilization, follow up and track student progress, and work collaboratively with on and off campus partners for student support. This position will serve an integral role within the holistic care model for student success used for the Rising Scholars Program. The Rising Scholars Case Manager will work collaboratively with the Basic Needs Program, EOPS, CalWorks, Guardian Scholars & NextUp, Counseling Office, Health and Wellness Center, and other supportive services on campus. The Case Manager will also be knowledgeable of, and develop partnerships with, off campus community resources designed to support justice impacted community members. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES • Coordinate and provide case-management services that are culturally informed, centered in care for the student, tailored to each students specific needs, and in collaboration with fellow care providers on campus. • Conduct needs assessments and plans that includes,to address and students specific needs • Conduct all interactions with students and colleagues with an air of collaboration, transparency, and safety • Learn about and establish connections with off-campus and on-campus resources and agencies that provide services to targeted student populations. Major Responsibilities : Oversee, and maintain STCW and National licensure records as required by the CFR, IMO,USCG and MARAD. Adhere to an annual calendar of actions required for implementation and execution of the STCW and National Quality Standards System (QSS). Current Cadet Compliance Maintain STCW Cadet records to include STCW database, certificates, and individual record of sea time equivalency. Maintain database to track compliance for US National and STCW endorsements and requirements not maintained in PeopleSoft. Manage and process Cadet applications for United States National licensure; work with the Career Center on requirements and certificates needed for Sea Training II; and provide the education on the application process for Cadet Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC), and non-US citizen Cadet applicants. Coordinate Cadet USCG MMC applications for national licensure and entry level credentials. Coordinate USCG license exams with NMC and REC Oakland. Verify academic completion of all license-track graduates with the Registrar. Validate completion of licensure requirements with NMC. Advise students regarding USCG policy and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Educate Cadets in the application procedures for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Previous Cadet Compliance Advise and assist students who have previously attended but not completed the USCG approved program. Provide clarification or information as requested by USCG, MARAD, Career Center, External Advisory Board and Maritime Industry. Alumni Compliance Advise and assist Alumni with academy STCW and National Licensure certificate needs. Required Qualifications: Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the US Coast Guard Licensing Program to develop conclusions and make recommendations. Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the US Coast Guard Licensing Program. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information in oral, written and electronic form. Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Skill in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit. Excellent communication skills. Strong oral and written command of the English language including grammar, spelling, punctuation, formats, proofreading and syntax. Strong computer skills, with proven ability to work with MS Office Suite (Word, Access, and Excel). Preferred Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree Familiarity with the maritime industry and USCG licensing. Past experience in data management. Knowledge of and ability to work with PeopleSoft/Oracle. Special Conditions: Physical, Mental and Environmental Conditions: Up to 40% of the activities involve sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling or walking; involves lifting heavy weight objects limited to 50 pounds; may involve pushing and pulling objects within the weight limits.
