Under general supervision, the Electronic Maintenance Technician Assistant Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of Electronic Technicians and other staff engaged in a variety of highly skilled technical work including but not limited to: maintaining, repairing, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, fabricating, modifying, designing and installing a wide variety of electronic, electrical, electromechanical equipment, and related control system components.
Essential functions assigned to this position include:
Nature of Work
- Supervising, directing, training and interpreting policies and procedures to staff engaged in a variety of tasks including testing and calibrating of electronic equipment using established test procedures;
- Operating Diagnostic Test Equipment (DTE), generators, meters, and other devices required to maintain electronic systems and equipment;
- Utilizing schematics, blueprints, wire lists, equipment manuals, and other resources necessary for equipment maintenance and repair;
- Installing, programming and interfacing with various communication devices such as metering and flow equipment;
- Troubleshooting microwave radios, cross connects analog to digital converters, and muxes; calibrating mechanical and microprocessor protection relays;
- Calibrating protective electronic equipment; installing, calibrating and repairing mechanical and analytical instruments;
- Protective relays, assorted instrumentation, switches, electronic monitoring processors, interrupters;
- maintaining and troubleshooting landline and fiber-optic;
- specifying and/or purchasing parts and equipment;
- using computer applications and database to generate reports of work completed and time expended;
- maintaining records of equipment maintenance activities, equipment test results, materials usage and records of studies related to specific projects;
- updating drawings to "as-built" status;
programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTUs), and other related equipment.
- May perform technical analysis, provide technical support, engage in technical fieldwork; and manage projects; analyze personnel operations and coordinate and monitor safety program.
Requires Nature of work requires driving a vehicle to various work locations, in inclement weather conditions; to maintain and repair equipment. Incumbent may be required to work with potentially hazardous equipment and materials in hazardous environments such as in confined spaces or dark and damp locations where telemetry equipment are located, and be available to work shifts, weekends, and on holidays.Minimum Qualifications
Required Special Condition
- Completion of a two (2) year course or equivalent program in electronics from a recognized academic, trade, or technical institution; or completion of a military training program in electronics; AND
- Five (5) years of industrial or institutional electronics experience performing installation, instrumentation calibration, maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair and modification of electronic control systems and related electrical components and electronic sub-systems to the electronic component level; AND
- Possession of a valid California driver's license
The position at the San Francisco International Airport is required to possess at least five (5) years working experience with SIMPLEX fire alarm system and the Monitor Dynamics Inc (MDI) access control system.

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred to hiring.
- Five (5) years working experience with Local Area Network (LAN) in installing, troubleshooting and programming network equipment.
- Five (5) years working experience with Simplex Fire Alarm in programming, installation and troubleshooting.
- Five (5) years working experience with Fire Marshall in inspecting and testing fire alarm systems.
- Possession of Simplex Training.
- Three (3) years working experience with Cisco Network in network programming, installation and troubleshooting.
- Three (3) years working experience in planning, conducting and testing Life Safety Systems with Airport units/sections.
- Three (3) years working experience in reviewing fire alarm designs for Airport tenants.
- Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code 72.
- Experience performing National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 72 inspections.
