Supervises and participates in the work of a medical records program at a County hospital or department.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for conducting reviews to assess the quality of coding and documentation according to current ICD and CPT coding classifications.
Ensures the medical records department is maintained in the manner that meets all licensing/accreditation guidelines, as well as federal regulatory requirements, and established policies and procedures.
Directs the performance of duties and responsibilities of the department.
Supervises medical records staff, coordinates schedules, delegates work assignments and solve employee relations issues.
Develops and maintains medical statistical records and prepares reports concerning the activities of their respective facility's Medical Records Office.
Provides information and prepares correspondence regarding patient admissions, treatments, discharges, and burial in accordance with departmental policies and legal requirements governing the release of medical information.
Provides information and prepares correspondence regarding patient admissions, treatment, discharges, and case mix indices for executive management reporting.
Participates in the development and/or revision of guidelines/procedures to improve workflows for respective facility, governed by Enterprise HIM guidelines.
Maintains on-going relationships with external/internal training vendors, as applicable ,and produces system reports regarding staff learning, system upgrades, and troubleshooting.
Devises and revises procedures to facilitate the work of the office, coordinates changes with other units of the hospital or department.
Interfaces with legal counsel regarding content of medical records; testifies in court as needed, concerning information contained in patient medical records.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of highly specialized* or supervisory office clerical experience in the preparation and maintenance of medical and related records or reports.PHYSICAL CLASS:
Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Highly specialized office clerical experience is defined as: Experience at the senior level with extensive knowledge of program related area, processes and procedures, and experience in a specific subject matter.
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of two (2) parts:Part I:
An evaluation of experience based upon application information, weighted at 50%.
Credit will be given to applicants who possess additional experience in the preparation and maintenance of medical and related records or reports in excess of the Minimum Requirements.Part II:
An Appraisal of Promotabilitywhich will measure the applicants knowledge and skills, problem solving, written and oral communication skills,interpersonal effectivenessand supervisionweighted at 50%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on eachweighted part of this examination in order tobe added to the eligible register.ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:

The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve(12) months.SPECIAL INFORMATION
