Departmental Promotional Opportunity
Restricted to permanent employess of the above Department who have sucessfully completed their initial probationary period.
Permanent employees who have completed their initial probationary period and hold a qualifying payroll title may file for this examination if they are within six months of meeting the experience requirements by the last day of filing.
Essential Job Functions
A Tree Trimmer is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions: climbs trees to trim or shape trees; uses rigging to climb trees and lower branches; strips, fills, and cuts trees for disposal; plants and transplants trees; maintains clearance along sidewalks and roads; operates hand and power driven cutting tools; sharpens and maintains saws and cutting tools; maintains and prepares all climbing and safety equipment; and drives a medium or heavy truck to and from work sites.

Current status as a Tree Trimmer, Temporary* in the service of the County of Los Angeles. -OR- Option II:

Physical Class IV - Arduous: Involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
*Recurrent or temporary employees who have completed at least 120 working days (960 hours) of satisfactory service as a Tree Trimmer, Temporary may compete in the promotional examination.
License Information: The County is required to comply with the Federal regulations which require pre-employment, post accident, reasonable suspicion, return to work, follow-up, and random urine drug and breath alcohol testing of employees who carry commercial Drivers Licenses and who are assigned to drive County vehicles.
Appointees may be required to provide automobiles and drive them in the County service at the rate of compensation allowed by the Board of Supervisors.
All successful applicants for this position will be subject to driving record verification before being appointed. Driver License must not be suspended, restricted or revoked. AN APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS FOUR OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based on application information weighted 50% and an Appraisal of Promotability weighted 50%. The Appraisal of Promotability will evaluate such factors as knowledge and skills, personal and public relations, productivity, written and oral communication, adaptability and dependability.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted part of the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.
**Candidates qualifying under Option II will be required to take a performance exam consisting of inspection of safety equipment, knot tying, tree climbing (footlock or body thrust method), use of a chain saw, procedure for cutting and lowering limbs, procedure for felling a tree, and correct use of a brush chipper.ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of six months following the date of promulgation.NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY SIX MONTHS.VACANCY INFORMATION

Before a final appointment is made to this position, candidates are subject to security clearance which includes fingerprinting.
