The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS)is the second largest health system in the nation, providing compassionate, quality care through its integrated system of hospitals and community-based clinics. DHS hospitals also conduct post-graduate medical education through university affiliations for interns, residents and fellows to train the physician workforce for tomorrow.

DEFINITION:
Supervises a crew of custodians or other workers maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of County offices, hospitals, health and correctional facilities, institutions, and buildings.
Essential Job Functions
Assigns, instructs, and supervises janitorial workers, and inspects work performed.

Ensures that safe work practices are observed.

Ensures an adequate inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment is stocked and distributed within the cleaning areas.

Investigates and resolves service complaints.

Maintains records and reports.

Performs the work of a Custodian on occasions.

Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites as necessary.
Requirements
MMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
OptionI:Two (2) years of experience in the service of the County of Los Angeles performing cleaning duties in an institution*, office building, or similar facility.

OptionII:Three (3) years of experience performing cleaning duties in an institution*, office building, or similar facility.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE:
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Institutional facilities are defined as hospitals, health centers, juvenile detention centers, jails, prisons, or residential care facilities.

Any person appointed to this position must successfully passthe Department of Health Services' Section I and Section IICustodianOrientationand Competency Assessment withinthirty (30) days of their initial appointment. Failure tosuccessfully complete the required competency assessmentwithin the first thirty (30) days of initial appointment willresult in immediate failure of the probationary period.

Thisrequirement does not apply to those persons who arealready employed by the Department of Health Services andwho have successfully completed the DHS Section I and Section II Custodian Orientation and Competency Assessmentwithin the twelve (12) months immediately preceding their appointment to this position.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising custodians.

Additional Information
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an oral interview which will assess the applicant's Job Preparation, Knowledge and Skills, Oral Communication and Problem Solving weighted 100%.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher onthis examination in order to be added to the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

SPECIAL INFORMATION :
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
